Our Ativa’s rattling sound is fixed! What was the problem? - Long-term review #6

It has been about two weeks of ownership with our Perodua Ativa. How have things been? Well, the rattling sound we mentioned previously had gotten really annoying. Every time we drove over abrupt irregularities on the right side, the sound became more and more apparent. We needed to take the Ativa to Sepang on Tuesday to check out some Malaysian-made electric car, so we held off going to the service centre until Wednesday. About two weeks of driving with that sound, we finally checked in at the

Toyota Corolla long wheelbase rumoured to launch in China, 100 mm longer!

Toyota is rumoured to be launching a Toyota Corolla long wheelbase that offers significantly more interior legroom. Like many long wheelbase specials, the Corolla LWB will be exclusive to the China market. The stretched Corolla will still be riding on the same Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-C) platform with its wheelbase extended by 100 mm to 2,800 mm. That is only 25 mm shorter compared to the Toyota Camry, so expect to have exceptional rear legroom. Toyota Corolla Altis The exterior desi

The Toyota Vios hasn’t been around as long as you think!

The Toyota Vios has its ups and downs but there is no denying that it is still a hugely popular car. You can’t walk 10 steps without stumbling over one in a parking lot. The Vios seems like it’s been around for years, 18 years to be exact. Wait what? But it feels longer! It’s true that the Vios started life only in 2002. It was a car created specifically to be sold in the Asia-Pacific market taking over the small sedan segment baton from what ASEAN regions know as the Toyota Soluna. Never heard

6 little things we like about our Ativa – long term review #7

As we drive our Ativa for more than two weeks, the excitement of owning a brand-new car has worn out. We’ve started to see more Ativas on the road too, and Cik Tiva doesn’t attract as much attention as she used to in the first few days. Worn out excitement aside, there are some little plus points that we find worth highlighting, in case the thought of buying an Ativa ever crossed your mind. The subject matter of its decent powertrain and suspension have been discussed multiple times, so now, let

Longer, with more legroom Let's start with the obvious: the car's size. Other than the longer wheelbase, the G28 is also slightly taller th

We’ve bought a Perodua Ativa for a long-term review and tear down!

So, we’ve bought a Perodua Ativa for a long-term review. Having booked the car in January 2021 (way before the virtual launch), we’re one of the early customers to receive the car. All along, we've been pestering the showroom to expedite the delivery, and we're very happy that it's finally here. What did we order? We’ve opted for the AV variant with a two-tone paint job, featuring the “Pearl Delima Red” body colour and black roof. No “Gear Up” kit here, since we prefer to keep things simple and

The RM 218K Electric MINI Cooper SE is sold out in Malaysia!

Following its success in Australia (100 units sold out), the 25 units of the MINI Cooper SE have been sold out in Malaysia. Launched in Malaysia less than a month ago, the electric MINI was only available in the three-door option. The MINI Cooper SE’s price tag of RM 218,380 is lower than what we expected it to be. The attractive price could be the reason for its success in Malaysia. The BMW i3s is priced much higher than that. Being an electric car, the road tax of MINI is charged by the amount

From foggy roads to congested cities, Honda Civic’s Sensing is one of the best

Last week, our driving instructor colleague Jason shared his thoughts on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), that driver assistance features are as its name implies, merely an assistive feature. It is not a be-all and end-all for car safety, because ultimately it is the behaviour of the idiot behind the wheel that matters the most. Yes ADAS has its benefits, but it is important to remember that not all ADAS are the same. In our typical KL traffic, some ADAS are more annoying than they are

Costs RM 64, our Ativa goes for its 1k km inspection - Long-term Review #5

It turns out doing 1,000 km in one week wasn’t so hard after all. Having done a good mix of city and slight highway driving, we’ve successfully run-in the Perodua Ativa last week and we have sent it in for a 1,000 km inspection last Friday. So, we booked our appointment at Perodua Service Sungai Penchala for 10 am. Everything went according to schedule and Cik Tiva was hoisted as soon as we finished talking with the service consultant. What does the 1,000 km inspection entail? Not much actually.

Long live the manual gearbox!

The demise of manual gearboxes may not be imminent after all, at least not at Porsche because they have just announced the option for a manual for the new 911, 992 generation. US market only for now.
