Who makes 2020's most reliable cars? What’s the 10 best car brands to buy from?

What’s the most reliable car brand? What brand should your next car be? Depending on who you ask, you will get different answers, depending on how they choose to make their assessment. If you were to ask the Americans at Consumer Reports, the best brands to buy are Porsche, Genesis, Subaru, Mazda, and Lexus, in that order. Something is clearly not right when a brand like Porsche tops the list of a consumer-friendly buying guide so take this with a pinch of salt. But Consumer Reports is not wrong

Have you ever wondered what Bibendum on your tyre wall is pointing at?

How do you check your tyre wear? Universally, we are taught to hold a coin within the grove of the tyre to check the depth of the treads. It took quite a bit of digging before I found the Malaysian coin version of the test. If all the alphabets of the words Bank Negara Malaysia on your 10 cent coin is on show when you hold the coin to the tread, it means it’s time to change your tyres. But did you not know that there is an even better fool proof test you can carry out without the use of coins? A

When the world bid farewell to 2009 and entered the new decade of the 2010s, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution was still on sale, BMWs were still rear (or all) wheel drive, and Carlos Ghosn was still emperor of a French-Japanese automotive empire. Ten years later, the world is quite a different place today. Here are the top 10 trends that defined that last decade, and how some of it put us on a path that we could never turn back from. Rise of SUVs In 2010, the market share for SUVs was less than 3

Apart from insurance and maintenance, another big ticket item that we have to spend on our cars is fuel. Sure, fuel price is at the lowest now due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but that doesn’t mean you are permanently immune from rising fuel cost, or you can't improve things further. As a general rule of thumb, you should always read through your car's owner’s manual and look for the recommended grade of fuel required, as well as recommended driving/maintenance habits. Top Rank – 10 production cars with the wildest wings

How does one differentiate between a spoiler and a wing? Well, sage spaniel-haired motoring host James “Captain Slow” May has a novel way to differentiate between a wing and a spoiler. He said in a review for the Honda Civic Type R FK8 that if his head can go through the space, then it’s a wing. Well, that's a definition we can live by and the wing is one of those tools that many car fanboys love to show off thinking it makes their car faster. But those who have a much more mature taste in cars

Why did Suzuki, Jeep and these 8 brands say "Bye bye Malaysia"?

Looking at our WapCar car list, we have 35 car brands in Malaysia. Other sites might have posted more but even so, that’s quite a lot. Yet, there are some complaints that we have so few brands being represented here. To be honest, the Malaysian automotive market is pretty small in comparison to some of our neighbours. There’s also the fact that it might be difficult to convince Malaysian buyers to buy something different from the norm. It doesn’t matter if the brand has a cool car in its line-up

A "cheap tyre” is going to kill you, here is why good tyres costs more

I don’t know about you, but tyres are a fascinating subject to me. I spend hours researching on what sort of tyre should I go for next. Full-on performance rubber? Or maybe I should give my back and ears a break and opt for a more comfortable option. One thing is for sure, I will be splashing my cash for one from a manufacturer of repute. And thankfully I’m not alone on that opinion. The responses from our dear fans and readers on WapCar Forum topic of cheap vs premium tyres were very encouragin

Top Rank: What are the worst-selling cars in Malaysia?

Finding the perfect car is the motto here at WapCar but "perfect" can be pretty subjective. After all, sometimes you want a car that fits your personality. Instead of going for the safe option, you would choose an alternative for wanting to stand out. For example, choosing a Kia Picanto over a Perodua Axia, a Citroen C3 Aircross over a Perodua Myvi, a Renault Koleos over a Honda CR-V, or even a Toyota RAV4 over a BMW X1. Wait, that last one is more on price than sharing the same segment but you

When was the last time you checked your tyre pressure?

I know I haven’t checked mine in a while, to be fair. I also can’t remember the last time I pumped air into my tyres, let alone checking the tyre pressure. It wasn’t until my colleague Adrian pointed out that the ride of my car felt odd, and recommended that I checked my tyre pressure just to be sure. I swung by a nearby petrol station to get my tyre pressure checked, and yes, all four of my tyres had really low pressure, one of them as low as 23 PSI. Yup, 23 PSI. That is much lower than the man

Top 5 best cars for long distance drives in Malaysia

There’s a term we use to convey refinement of a car – NVH, which stands for Noise, Vibration, Harshness. The lower the NVH, the more refined and comfortable it is. NVH is, more often than not, judged based on subjective feeling. In other words, we feel the car through our bums and ears. Though in the aspect of noise, we do measure it using a sound level meter to maintain a level of objectivity. Before we begin, we’d like to rule out ultra-luxurious cars like the Rolls-Royce Phantom or the Merced

Tyres, the round, black donuts that are often overlooked by its users. Objectively speaking, tyres are one of the most important components in your car.
