Unveiled officially back in 2014, the Lamborghini Huracán shares the same platform, engine, and many of its onboard tech with the Audi R8 Type 4S (Audi owns Lamborghini). A mid-cycle facelift was subsequently introduced in 2019 with revised styling and aerodynamics, updated equipment list as well as an improved V10 powertrain as seen in the outgoing Performante variant.
Known as the Lamborghini Huracán EVO, the facelifted version is the evolution to the most successful V10-powered Lamborghini ever. Variants on offer in Malaysia is comprehensive to say the least. It is offered in both the coupé and drop-top Spyder form, with RWD option available for the purist alike. The variants available are the standard EVO, EVO Spyder, EVO RWD, EVO RWD Spyder, EVO Fluo Capsule and last but not least, the race inspired STO. Prices starts from RM 1.15 million for the base model excluding tax.
Lamborghini has always been the bedroom wallpaper of choice for many car enthusiasts largely thanks to their extreme otherworldly exterior designs. While it remains true for classics like the Lamborghini Countach up until recent examples like the Lamborghini Gallardo and Lamborghini Aventador, the same cannot be said about the latest Lamborghini Huracán.
Make no mistake, the latest masterpiece from Sant' Agata is every bit as extreme as any Lamborghini that has ever been, but the bull has now been heavily tamed, sporting a relatively toned down and less angular body contours, seemingly trying to appeal to a larger demographic of customers.
That said, the classic Lamborghini rear-mid-engine supercar proportion with the pronounced shoulder haunches and long swooping roofline is instantly recognizable. The striking hunkered down front end now features a more aggressive front bumper with integrated Y-shaped aeroblade for improved aerodynamics. Louvred engine glass cover displays the bull’s V10 beating heart in all its glory.
At the rear, the EVO features design elements Inspired by the pre-facelift Performente variant, which incorporates a redesigned rear diffuser, repositioned twin-exhaust exits and revised radiators design. A new ducktail spoiler improves downforce by 5 times as compared to the outgoing model.
The new Evo Fluo Capsule variant introduces bright and bold colours, realised in a matte paint exterior with complementary interior colour and trim options. Colours option including Verde Shock (green), Arancio Livrea (orange), Celeste Fedra (blue), Arancio Dac (orange) and Giallo Clarus (yellow) combines with the matte black roof, front bumper and side skirts to give the car a striking two-tone finish.
The Lamborghini Huracán has grown significantly compared to the Lamborghini Gallardo it replaces, but without any weight penalty thanks to its lightweight body construction using materials like aluminium and carbon fibre. Tipping the scale at 1,542 kg, it is in fact around 55 Kg lighter. It measures marginally larger than its non-identical twin the Audi R8 but smaller compared to its fellow Italian, the Ferrari 488 as well as the McLaren 720 S.

Jet-inspired Polygonal design themes can be found on the digital instrument panel, aircon vents, door panels, transmission control as well as on the missile-launcher-style start/stop button with red colour guard. The cabin is finished in the highest quality materials with upholstery available in the finest Italian leather, Alcantara and Carbon Skin, an innovative carbon-fiber material available exclusively from Lamborghini, complete with interior highlights to match the exterior shade.
The driving position is excellent, but less so for the outward visibility due to the narrow windows, which is almost a given in a Lamborghini. Taller driver may struggle a touch for head and legroom. Interior storage area is almost nonexistence although the floating centre console design freed up a useful cubby hole hidden from view. On top of the 150-litre boot space available under the front bonnet, space behind the seats offers an additional 60-70 litres of cargo space.
Most of the controls, including the headlight and indicator switches, have been moved to the steering wheel. The reconfigurable 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit, part of Audi's technology line-up, can be configured in a variety of ways to show your speed and revs, as well as sat-nav and audio information.
Lamborghini connected services through the UNICA app will not only provide you with real-time traffic information and travel route update, it also offers Car Finder function, vehicle status report, over-the-air software update and Amazon Alexa integration, all thought the convenience of your smartphone.
Technical highlights include a new rear-wheel steering, along with a torque vectoring system. Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI), a central processing unit capable of coordinating complex and sophisticated system for the management of driving dynamics, is able anticipate the wishes of the driver based on the driver’s input, external environment, and the selected driving mode.
Elsewhere, the magneto rheological dampers in the active suspension have also been upgraded and work in tandem with Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI). An enhanced traction control system, together with the Audi Quattro-derived all-wheel drive system, allows traction to be directed to any individual wheel as deemed necessary.
Totally reworked and reengineered with optimized fluid dynamics both in the aspiration and exhaust, the Audi-sourced engine boasts the highest specific power output of any the V10 engine. The new aspiration ducts are derived from the Lamborghini Motorsport expertise which greatly enhances the responsiveness of the engine at any speed. The new engine delivers immence performance along with a deep growling soundtrack thanks to the new lightweight exhaust system.
The electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system with rear mechanical self-locking differential sends 70 percent of power to the rear in normal operation but can divert up to 100 per cent to the rear if it senses slip at the front. It feels predominantly RWD and eager to change direction. Though not as sharp as the borderline hyperactive Ferrari 488 or as punchy as the McLaren, its convincing enough to earns itself a driver’s car status.
Three driving modes which alters the driving dynamics progressively are selectable via an ANIMA switch on the steering wheel. The available 4-wheel drive system is electronically controlled and guarantees higher speed and precision in distributing the torque between the axles, while the RWD version offers a sweeter handling with more alert responses and greater drivability, thanks in part to a 30kg weight saving.
