As with other current-generation Mazda models, the rendered CX-50 gets an evolved form of Mazda’s Kodo design language.
Like the Mazda CX-30, the imagined CX-50 also gets a generous dose of plastic cladding around the body, as well as silver and chrome trim for an added upmarket appeal. It also gets massive wheels to fill up those wheel arches.
What do we know about the Mazda CX-50?
Earlier this month, we reported that Mazda is developing a brand-new rear-wheel drive platform that could be applied to a range of models, including SUVs and sedans.
The Mazda CX-50 is one possible candidate to receive the new rear-wheel drive platform – a massive departure for the Hiroshima-based company as they primarily focus on front-wheel drive models. The only other rear-wheel drive model in their arsenal is the pint-sized Mazda MX-5.
Apart from the new rear-wheel drive platform, the upcoming Mazda CX-50 is also said to receive a range of straight-six engines, with engine capacities ranging from 3.0- to 3.3-litres. Mazda’s 48V mild hybrid system is also expected to be fitted to these engines as well.
Will there be other models getting the new platform?
The Mazda 6 is also another candidate to receive this new driver-focused platform.
Recall that the current-generation Mazda 6 is a tad bit long in the tooth and has gone through one minor and one major facelift since it was first introduced in 2012.
With the new rear-wheel drive platform in place, rumours are circulating suggesting that Mazda could be sharing it with Toyota for the Lexus IS.
