All-new 2022 Geely Boyue to get Volvo XC40's CMA platform, China launch later this year

The Geely Boyue X is the most recent update

The Geely Boyue, sold here as the Proton X70, has entered its seventh year of its model lifecycle. To keep it competitive against newer rivals like the Haval H6, a brand-new model is needed.

There are noticeable changes in the Boyue X's interior

According to a recent report out of China, Geely could be introducing a brand-new Boyue as soon as later this year, underpinned by the Volvo XC40’s CMA platform.

The Xingyue L is also the largest Geely model to adopt the CMA platform

The report went on to elaborate that the all-new Boyue will receive various improvements, including powertrain and safety aspects.

The X70 shares its 1.8-litre turbo engine with the Boyue

The long-serving turbocharged 1.8-litre engine could make way for a newer Volvo-sourced Drive-E 2.0-litre unit, possibly lifted off the Xingyue L. In the Xingyue L, two power outputs are offered: 217 PS and 325 Nm, as well as 238 PS and 350 Nm.

What about the Proton X70?

Production of the Proton X70 started in late-2019, just before Covid-19 hit us

The current generation Proton X70 only began production in Malaysia at the Tanjung Malim plant in late-2019, before launching in February 2020, just before MCO/CMCO wreaked havoc on the company’s projections.

The current Proton X70 still has a couple of years left in its lifecycle. A brand-new Proton X70 isn’t expected until at least 2025.
