It’s a good first car if your aim is to learn about fixing cars.
Even on our early test drive, the Volkswagen Touareg’s superb levels of comfort and refinement were apparent, so we’re looking forward to getting our hands on one in the UK. It’s packed with tech and handles well, too. We just hope VW gets the pricing right when it comes to market.
I’ve owned 3 Touaregs in the past 10 years. 2006,2011,2015 To me the 2005–2011, one has the best finish, and materials.Even the hinges on the boot lid are covered in a thick matte plastic(Not in the new ones). However it has a few reliability issues, Gearbox sometimes gives a jerk when shifting down as you accelerate. Mine came with springs but was still very comfortable. The seats as well were really wide, much wider than the new ones and had ample support. 2011 is pretty good, had the hybrid, fully spec car.Had everything from nappa leather to air suspension. The car was very comfortable, the most of the 3 but not by much compared the coil 2006 one.The air suspension though gave the car a different feel when driving,to this date haven’t driven a standard car(not including race cars)with such a change from comfort to sport setting,(range rover sport doesn’t come close).Actually sold my car to a guy who owns a Supercharged Sport and he says the Touareg is much more comfortable. 2015 Touareg was just a basic 3.0V6 Diesel but had some options such as the 4 zone climatic which the Hybrid doesn’t come with due to the electric motor location. However without the air-suspension this car was actually quite uncomfortable car, bumps would come crashing straight onto your back, how the hell can the 2015 suspension be worse than the 2006 I really dont know lol. However the car did handle well, better than the 2006 so I guess that was the compromise, but no real excuse. Overall all of them are great cars, value for money and won’t for the most part leave you unsatisfied, probably not at all if you get a very high spec car. Also I guess the newer ones will be more reliable as the little issues gets fixed year on year.
It is not a vehicle I would suggest to anyone. They get poor mileage and are about as reliable as a Range Rover. As in, not at all.
On my 2.5 TDI R5 Touareg (Diesel), that is now almost 10 years old, I got over the lifetime of the car 9.41 km's per liter of fuel. That is 10.62 L / 100 km. And yes, I have a spreadsheet where I record all my fuel usage ;-)
It is a reliable one as long as you take care of it, fill it with good fuel and fluids, and replace the worn out parts asap. But bear in mind that you are attracted to old VW AG vehicles. So yeah, it will cost a lot to make it a “reliable” one.
If it's a rectangular shape on the bumper just below each headlight it could be a headlight washer cover , turn on your lights and get someone to work windshield washers and they should pop up ( if they are fitted )
