If somebody robs a bank and the getaway car is a harlequin VW, how does police dispatch describe the color of the vehicle?
“,All units, 2–11 at Burbank and Van Nuys. Getaway vehicle is described as a multi-color Volkswagen,.” So.. not one of the thousands of red VW’s and not one of the tens of thousands of white or silver VW’s… but one with several colors. How many cars to you see on the road that are 2, 3 or even 4 colors on the same car as opposed to one solid color? That would be about the easiest car to spot, ever.
What cars exist that are one of a kind?
There are many answers to this question, but today I’m particularly inclined to answer with the Volkswagen Golf/Polo Harlequin. Basically, the new Polo and the new Golf were going to be launched in a plethora of new colors. But of course, Volkswagen would’ve needed to show a plethora of them at every show to get that point across. That is, unless they took one car and mounted panels of all the other colors on it. Because the public is the public, they were flooded with requests and decided to make a small batch of them in four color combinations, one for each base color (the Golfs in America and Polos in Europe), which was quickly expanded as they all got sold. We are still talking about going from the two digits to the low three though, so they’re still impossibly rare. I love them because I’ve been cursed to love all that’s quirky, original and rare, but also because I live in the worst place I’ve ever been in car colors-wise. 80% of the cars are grayscale, half the cars that aren’t seem to fear straying from it so much that it’s only barely noticeable, and the half of the remaining ones are a boring shade of red. It’s the last place in the world you’d ever see a car like that. Or is it?
