Overview
Launched in August 2024, the 2025 Proton X70 facelift (internally as the MC2) starts at RM 98,800, retaining the previous pricing despite adding more value-added features. Proton follows an American-style model year format, so models released in Q4 are marketed for the next calendar year.
Highlighting the updates, the new X70 is now quieter and more fuel-efficient. It also features an upgraded infotainment system with support for Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay
Two variants were discontinued from (the MC1) before it: the 1.5L TGDi Executive AWD and the older 1.8L TGDi Premium. There are 4 variants now, as follows:
- 1.5 TGDi Standard: RM 98,800
- 1.5 TGDi Executive: RM 110,800
- 1.5 TGDi Premium: RM 123,800
- 1.5 TGDi Premium X: RM 126,800
Notably, all variants are powered by the locally-produced (GEP3) 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, paired with a quieter operating (EVO300) 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, shared with the latest Proton S70 (and X50). Output remains the same at 177 PS / 255 Nm, but fuel consumption is claimed to have improved by 4%, now rated at 7.3 litres/100 km (NEDC).
Elsewhere, the Flagship and Flagship X variants also come with advanced safety features through a complete Level 2 ADAS suite now thanks to newer features such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Centering Control and Lane Departure Prevention, amongst others.
Exterior
The 2025 Proton X70 (MC2) features a refreshed front-end design, with a redesigned bumper, new front fenders, a new hood and sleeker headlights. The new gloss black dashboard trim, most noticeable on the passenger side, now features a 72-color ambient lighting setup.
Dashboard
The dashboard of the 2025 X70 MC2 is ergonomic and well laid out. On the inside, all variants feature a 12.3-inch floating infotainment display across all variants, a notable increase from the previous 8-inch units, providing a more modern look and enhancing connectivity.
The 2025 Proton X70 also gets a newly designed 7-inch LCD combination instrument cluster for crisp and legible readouts. Elsewhere, there is also a new steering wheel design with multi-function buttons.
Space
The 2025 X70 MC2 is designed to fit 5 adults comfortably and delivers a suitably refined driving experience. The seating position and overall head and shoulder room both at the front and back are adequate.
Boot

Safety Features

The Premium and Premium X variants further enhance safety with the inclusion of the Level 2 ADAS suite. This includes advanced features such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Centering Control, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Rear Collision Warning and Traffic Sign Information amongst others.
Conclusion
Six years after its initial debut, the facelifted 2025 X70 MC2 brings the most comprehensive updates yet to Proton’s flaghsip model. The refreshed design revitalizes the X70’s appearance, while the enhanced feature list aligns it with newer (predominantly Chinese rivals) like the Chery Tiggo 7 and GAC GS3 Emzoom.
The new powertrain delivers improved refinement and fuel economy, addressing a key drawback of the previous model. Remarkably, Proton has managed to maintain the same pricing while offering more value, positioning the X70 MC2 strongly in the highly competitive and price-conscious C-segment SUV market.
