How fuel efficient is the 2020 Perodua Bezza?

The 2020 Perodua Bezza made its debut with two carry-forward engines, 1.3-litre engine and 1.0-litre engine. We already know the Bezza is well know for its fuel efficiency but there weren't any official real world numbers. So, we decided to take the Bezza AV 1.3-litre variant for a spin to test out just how much the updated A-segment sedan's fuel consumption.

The Bezza’s 1.3-litre DVVT-i petrol engine produces 95 PS and 121 Nm. The engine has since proven its reliability and fuel efficiency throughout the 4 years the Bezza has been on sale.

Perodua claims the Bezza AV variant’s 1.3-litre engine has a claimed fuel consumption of 4.5-litre / 100 km.

Based on our real-world tests with the Eco-Idle start/stop function off, the Bezza's data on smooth highways showed that after 120 km travelled, the engine has only used up 7.6-litre. This translates to 6.34-litres used per 100 km.

On this test, the Bezza’s onboard fuel reading returned 6.53-litre/ 100 km used.

We also took the Bezza on an urban drive through stop-go traffic and other similar road congestion problems. The car returned 7.4-litres / 100 km.

Though the numbers are not the best, it is within expectations of acceptable difference between lab test and rear-world driving conditions.

The Bezza’s Dual VVT-i engine plays a huge part in the sedan’s fuel consumption as it was built specifically for fuel savings. The engine’s 4 cylinders come complete with friction reducing Teflon lining and it uses iridium spark plugs.

Add to that, the Bezza also has a lightweight body. Weighing in at 940 kg that would mean less fuel is burnt to move the car.

Of course, our tests are done without the use of Eco-Idle feature as it is rather irritating to use in traffic. With that function on, there is no doubt that the sedan would help save even more fuel on your daily drive.

Oops... Something broke.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr

Review: BYD Dolphin in Malaysia - A solid choice for EV beginners, except for one thing

You might be aware that Malaysia prohibits the import of electric vehicles (EVs) priced below RM 100,000, and this is indeed accurate. The rationale behind this policy, driven by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), is actually sound when you consider their goal of attracting investments in the EV sector. In the world of technology, most of the valuable stuff is in the higher-end product range. Cheaper electric cars have minimal technological sophistication; they're kind of li
