Yours for only RM 355k: Toyota GR Corolla launched in Malaysia - 300 PS/370 Nm, 6MT

The Toyota GR Corolla is officially launched in Malaysia alongside the Toyota GR86 and the Toyota GR Supra 6MT, priced at RM 355,000.

Like in the Toyota GR Yaris, the GR Corolla gets the same G16E-GTS 1.6-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, but revised to output 300 PS and 370 Nm – a healthy 39 PS and 10 Nm increase over the GR Yaris. Though the GR Corolla is heavier, coming in at 1,475 kg (GR Yaris weighs 1,280 kg).

Power is sent to all four wheels via an old-school 6-speed manual transmission with the iMT rev-matching feature.

And just like the GR Yaris, the GR Corolla’s GR-Four AWD system uses an electronic multi-plate clutch to provide variable front and rear driving force, based on selected driving mode. Front and rear Torsen limited-slip differential come and standard.

Another old-school feature is the parking handbrake which replaces the electric parking brake in the standard Corolla. Toyota says that this allows better vehicle control even when pushing the car to its limits.

It rides on MacPherson struts at the front and double wishbones at the rear like the GR Yaris and GR86. Wheels are 18-inch items with 235/40 R18 profile rubbers.

Brakes are 4-piston callipers clamping down on 355 mm rotors at the front, 2-piston calliper with 300 mm rotors at the rear.

Exterior wise, it’s fitted with a more aggressive front grille compared to the regular Corolla hatchback, flared fenders to accommodate a wider track, and rear diffuser with functional vents that’s said to improve aerodynamics and cooling. And let’s not forget the triple exhaust exits at the rear.

Inside, there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, aluminium sport pedals, head-up display, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Safety wise, the GR Corolla get 7 airbags along with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 which comprises of:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
  • Automatic High Beams (AHB)
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

The Toyota GR Corolla is available in 4 exterior colours - Precious Metal, Super White, Emotional Red, and Black.
