What are the criteria for choosing the best primary topic for a question on Quora?

What are the criteria for choosing the best primary topic for a question on Quora? First I feel it helps to understand the purpose of the primary topic. ,History of the primary topic The primary topic used to be called the "question context" of a question [1]. For a time, question askers had to choose a topic for their question (we still do, I think), and the topic you chose became the question context (primary topic). That's no longer the case--the first topic you choose is just a regular topic; primary topics are optional. But what are they there for? ,The purpose of primary topics in 2014 From my research so far, it seems primary topics are a way of giving context to a question. To quote Quora product designer, ,Joel Lewenstein,: [...] the primary topic is prepended to the question text when it's displayed across the site. So choose the topic that will best help people understand the question. For instance: If I have a question "Who had the most RBI's in history?" you might say the question is equally about RBI's and Baseball Statistics. But RBI's won't help people understand the question, whereas Baseball Statistics helps someone contextualize the question. In the future, we may weight topics differently for distribution, but currently it's about comprehension. And a quote from Quora founder, ,Adam D'Angelo,: The purpose of context is to make the question text shorter and more natural. ,This makes it easier to ask questions and easier to consume them. [...] For questions about niche subjects, it's convenient to use [a primary topic] to disambiguate the question [...] you could ask "Where is the nearest Borders?" [and append the] Mountain View, CA [primary topic] and avoid having to type out the location He goes on to say: For many questions, there is no need to use a [primary topic]., For example [the question], ,"What are the differences between New York City and San Francisco?", does not need a context—the question is not "within" either city. To share another example, recently I helped to improve this question by adding a primary topic to it: Should I buy a Maserati GranTurismo or a Tesla Model S? What are the pros and cons of each? (At least, I feel I improved it.) Some people may not know what a Maserati GranTurismo or Tesla Model S is, but appending ,Cars and Automobiles, as the primary topic helps give the question more context without having to add unnecessary detail to a question. ,Something to keep in mind Adam mentions that if you add a primary topic to a question, it may be helpful to edit the question: If you add a [primary topic] to an existing question, you ,might ,want to edit the question text to remove redundant information and shorten it. For example: "What are some counters to mass carrier fleets in Starcraft II?" …could change to ",[Starcraft II] ,What are some counters to mass carrier fleets?" …if you were to add the ,Starcraft II ,[primary topic]. However, this is not always appropriate. For example: "What is the best restaurant in Palo Alto?" …would be fine [with] ,Palo Alto, [as the primary topic because]: ",[Palo Alto] ,What is the best restaurant?" …would be awkward and ambiguous ,Footnotes [1] An old Quora blog post that announced mandatory question contexts: Product Change: Requiring a Topic When Adding a Question The info in this post is accurate as of May 2014.

Are Aston Martins, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, or Porsches suitable for a daily commute?

Some of those brands are very different- as are their various models. Aston Martin- , I would say that their cars are meant to be weekend cars driven a few days a week but not every day. Not to say you couldnt, but they are not engineered to be driven like that and will probably be more of a headache if driven every day... especially in weather. Maserati- ,Yes. The Ghibli and Quattroporte are most definitely meant to be daily drivers. The GranTurismo probably is again, though personally I would throw that more into the "weekend driver" like an Aston. Lamborghini & Ferrari- ,Would not suggest driving these every day. They are quite impractical and will be extremely costly to maintain as a daily driver. Porsche- ,At this point, 90% of their cars are meant to be daily drivers. With the exception of GT2, GT3 (and RS editions), all other models will offer the same luxury as any BMW or Audi, with more performance. Often regarded as one of the most dependable brands, Porsches are, at least among the brands you listed, the ideal daily driver. Pick up a 911 Turbo S. It will outperform just about every brand there and for a fraction of the price.

Why do electric and hybrid cars generally look weird?

They don’t. I don’t know why you think they’re looking weird, because I find they’re looking quite normal. Let’s take, for example, one of the most popular electric cars in the world, the Nissan Leaf: Maybe it’s me, but I personally think they look quite normal, except maybe the fact that they don’t have calender in the front, since they don’t need a radiator. You may think to the Mitsubishi i-Miev, which is A BIT UGLY, I AGREE: (My uncle’s i-Miev) But they are just an electric version of the Mitsubishi i: Next stop, the Chevrolet Volt, quite known but looking pretty much normal: (First gen) (Second gen) I’m sure you thought to the queen (of normal people) of hybrids, the fourth gen Prius, with its lightly futuristic look: But if you’re looking to the third gen, it looks normal: The Zoé, from Renault? A bit strange, I agree, but that’s more because of designers: And what about the electric Kangoo? Looking like the normal one: We then pass to more luxurious models, like the first Tesla, not really known from the public, but quite known in petrolhead’s world, the Roadster: Based on the Lotus Elise’s chassis; pretty cool, isn’t it? Let’s pass to the more known, Model S, still from Tesla: I personally think to a Maserati Ghibli/GranTurismo each time I see one, so that’s a thumbs up to Elon Musk. And now, the queens of hybrid cars (not gonna talk about protos, LMP1/LMP2 hybrids for example, as they all look strange to a non-car guy). I shall present you the Ferrari LaFerrari (I think they ran out of names this time…): Maybe looking strange, not my favorite Ferrari, for sure (being a true Ferrari aficionado), but comparing to the (petrol-powered) Enzo, produced a decade ago, that’s not that much: Then, in my top, at the second position of the queens of hybrids, I have the truly amazing (but a bit overrated, to my opinion) McLaren P1: Stunning, no? And, at my first position, the true Queen of hybrid cars, the beautiful, the handsome, the superb, Porsche 918 (successor, in numbers, of the AMAZING Porsche 917): Still thinking they look weird? Edit: There wasn’t a description when I wrote the answer, and you talked about the BMW i3: And the superb BMW i8: I agree with you on a point: they look like concept cars. And that’s what BMW wanted. Because I remind you that the starting price of the i3 is 45 300$ CAN, and the starting price of the i8 is 150 000$ CAN. And I remind you, that the i3 is a 2-seater (don’t think to bring 4 people in this, you will need to amputate the legs of the people seated back), with no room, for more than the Leaf, the i-Miev or the Bolt, all more practical than the i3. And when you pay that much for an electric car like this, you want to scream to people “LOOK AT HOW ECOLOGIC I AM”. As for the i8, it’s a pure two-seater, and you WANT people to look at you. I think also that the i8 reminds me a bit the amazing M1: And that they are both close from their concepts, the i3 Concept and the i8 Concept: I would also like to mention the Cadillac ELR: Which simply continues on the way of angular design, from Cadillac. Example with the CLS: And the sporty XLR: So, if you want a normal car, you will not need a concept-ish design. That’s all.

Should I buy a Maserati GranTurismo or a Tesla Model S? What are the pros and cons of each?

Yes Wow - a question almost made for me! I drive both, a ‘18 GT MC stradale and a ‘17 Model X and have driven a Model S several times while the X is in being fixed (that’s another story) These are vastly different cars so it’s hard to imagine anyone contemplating one or the other. The GT is antiquated, noisy (externally), cramped and difficult to drive. It’s hard to see it functioning as a family car with the small back seats and only two doors. Teslas are easy to drive, more spacious and full of tech bells and whistles. It also has four doors and bigger seats (tho the recessed seat belts are next to useless when a child seat is fitted) In terms of reliability and build quality the GT wins hands down. It’s quite astounding that a supposedly tempremental Italian sports car hasn’t been near the dealer since new while my Model X has had to spend 8 long vacations in the Service Centre (hence the number times I’ve had a Model S!). Whilst the interior of the GT is plasticy for a modern car (it’s not luxurious like say a Bentley) however the Tesla brings cheap and nasty plastics to a new level! Engine noise aside, it’s quiter in the GT. For me, I’ll use the Tesla around town, as long as it’s not raining as the wipers are useless. It’s easy to park without getting the unwanted attention you’d get in the Maser - it just looks like a company car that so many people in Ireland have bought due to the reduced Benefit In Kind tax on EVs. If there’s going to be twisty stuff or long distances and I just want to enjoy the drive it’s the Maserati every time - it’s just much more fun and a far more engaging drive. It’s the kids choice too - despite the two doors - they’re old enough to recognise a thing of beauty relative to an iPhone on wheels. On that, the tech in the Tesla is tempremental and mainly pointless - gimmicks like OTA updates are just that - gimmicks, especially when the basics like doors, radio, windows, wipers, seats etc are so shoddy. EV’s days will come - but likely from a different manufacturer who can build a better handling, better finished example than Tesla. In the meantime there’s time for at least one more old school motors like the Maserati!! Finally - It’s not even that polluting to go gas relative to the Model X which gulps down 300kwh per Km (average over 11,000 km gentle driving as it’s the school run and shopping car). In Ireland (taking into account the mix of how power is generated here) that’s a C02 of about 280g per Km compared to the GT’s 311g. (Edit: The S would pollute less, but depending on where you live and how you charge still could be a lot more than you think) Buy the GT if you can live with two doors and the engine noise - it makes sense (almost) and it’s much more fun if your idea of driving extends beyond drag racing from the lights.

What is the most overrated pleasure? Why?

Maserati: GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition, Base Price ($182,000) This car will drive on the same road like my car This car had to stop on Red lights like my car This car will get stuck in traffic like my car This car will get destroyed and broken (if met with an accident), same like my car This car is having room for 4 people my car is having room for 5 Still people pay $182,000 to buy this car.

What are the pros and cons of owning a Maserati car?

Pros: Very sexy, fun, reliable, depreciation is as bad as your typical luxury car unless you keep the mileage down and go for a special edition or a granturismo. Cons: Earlier Ghiblis and facelifted QPs have some Chrysler parts, although you can't go wrong with a 2011–13 QP or new Granturismo

Should I get my 16 year old a Maserati GranTurismo?

haha the other answer is funny but not necessarily true. I’m 18 (got the car as a graduation gift) and have a Ghibli s Q4, which actually is faster for 0–60 than a granturismo. If you live up north, no. A rear-wheel drive sports car with 454 hp and weighing almost 2.5 tons will not have any traction in the snow. Look at a C63 amg in snow as comparison even with snow tires, it slides all over the place. I'm anxious about how my car will handle, but better than the granturismo for sure. what year were you thinking of? Getting a non-certified/ very used granturismo will likely lead to lots of problems and getting to know the service department well. If it's new, obviously much less of it, but i still prefer to not daily my car even though it's much more of a family sedan than the granturismo just to help lessen the wear I put on it. I'm not a fast driver, but I do accelerate hard off the lines usually and onto highways especially with the treat of hearing a Maserati exhaust while doing it. It's a fantastic car and I've driven them plenty of times, very fun and gets lots of looks (which isn't always as nice as it sounds) but the exhaust and drive is something thats hard to match. Best of luck with your decision, but I would say a C63 coupe (2014 507 editions are fast and fun with the traditional 6.2 liter still) or even a Ghibli SQ4 is more than enough power for a new driver. As long as he stays responsible and respectful on the road, he’ll be fine.
