Geely has some reasons to smile in the Philippines as the Geely Coolray (Proton X50 to us Malaysians) snagged the title of best-selling 5-seater subcompact crossover in the country in Q1 2021.
Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official local distributor of Geely vehicles in the country claimed the Coolray took the top spot in its segment with 744 units sold in the first three months of the year.

The Chinese carmaker also maintained its position in the top 10 best-selling brands in the country, placing ninth in total industry sales with a total of 1,313 units sold in Q1. This is an impressive 345% increase from the 295 units sold in the same period of 2020.
The Coolray accounted for 57% of Geely’s total sales in Q1 while 40% of sales came from the offensively named Okavango with 521 units.

March was a very good month for Geely too as it set a new record in sales with 533 units sold, beating the previous record of 520 units in December 2020.

According to the latest Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) vehicles sales data, 76,128 vehicles including passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and commercial vehicles were sold in the country in Q1 2021.
Toyota remained the country’s best-selling brand with 33,095 units. This was followed by Mitsubishi and Nissan with 11,788 and 5,198 units sold.
Meanwhile, Geely is aiming to sell around 9,500 units this year. With the country enforcing stricter quarantine measures that affected the overall business environment, can Geely accomplish its target?
