In Brazil, the Toyota Corolla Cross is Toyota's bestseller, outselling the Corolla sedan

The Toyota Corolla Cross is now Toyota's bestseller in Brazil, beating out its stablemate, the Toyota Corolla sedan. Toyota's latest compact SUV, launched in Malaysia earlier in March this year, sold 4,710 units in June 2021, overtaking the Corolla's 3,544 units in the same period.

However, cumulative numbers from January to June 2021 still puts the Corolla ahead, with 19,899 units compared to the Corolla Cross' 10,313 units (sales of the Corolla Cross began in March-26, 2021).

The Corolla Cross SUV started its first full-month sales with 1,889 units in April. That increased to 3,678 units in May - it then went on to claim the bestselling title in June, which saw the registration of 4,710 units.

Locally, the Toyota Corolla Cross is powered by a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine (139 PS, 172 Nm) mated to  CVT transmission. It comes in two variants, 1.8G (RM 124,000) and 1,8V (RM 129,266), SST discounts included and valid till 31-December 2021.

It seems that the shift towards SUVs is evident in not just Malaysia, but other parts of the world too. The Toyota Corolla Cross has proven to be a runaway hit for the company. In Malaysia, all 750 units of the fully-imported (CBU Thailand) allocated for Malaysia were sold out, less than one week after it was launched.
