UMW Toyota Motor confirms at least 2 new model launches soon (Veloz?), March 2022 sales up 32%

  • March 2022's sales increased 31.9 percent, for Toyota and Lexus
  • At least 2 new model launches later this year
  • 2022 Toyota Veloz almost confirmed, new GR Sport Yaris / Corolla Cross / Hilux next?

UMW Toyota Motor sold 8,487 vehicles in March 2022, up 31.9 percent from the previous month’s 6,432 units, a result that the company says put it at the top as Malaysia’s No.1 non-national car company.

Of the total, sales of Toyota vehicles totalled 8,386 units, up from 6,336 units in February 2022, while Lexus sold 101 units, up from 66 units.

UMW Toyota Motor attributes its positive sales results to its ongoing March promotions offering soaring rewards to its customers including value added benefits worth RM4,000 for Toyota best-sellers such as Vios and Yaris.

More importantly, the company has confirmed that it will be launching at least two new models later this year.

No further details were shared, but one of it is definitely the 2022 Toyota Veloz, which will replace the now-discontinued Toyota Avanza, and will be assembled by Perodua alongside the forthcoming D27A 2022 Perodua Alza.

“The automotive leader also anticipates further boost in sales with its upcoming new product launches later in the year as Toyota continuously innovates to empower Toyota fans with mobility through the best value for money deals to its customers, along with top-of-the-line security features and enhanced performance,” said the company’s press release.

The identity of the second new model is still a bit hard to predict, unless the company is referring to a new variant. If that's the case, then it could be a GR Sport variant of the Yaris, Corolla Cross or Hilux.

There's also the Toyota GR86, but that's unlikely to be launched here until 2023, seeing that Thailand too has yet to launch the model there.
