Price of electric Toyota bZ4X announced at RM 178k for USA, deliveries to start soon

Deliveries of Toyota’s first dedicated EV-only model, the Toyota bZ4X will begin in USA – the first country to sell the electric SUV - coming weeks, ahead of its twin the Subaru Solterra.

Prices of the Toyota bZ4X have been announced to start at USD 42,000 (~RM 178k), about twice as much as a Corolla Cross (USD 22,195, or ~RM 93,900).

Note that the US specs Corolla Cross uses a bigger 2.0-litre engine with no hybrid option, compared to our market’s 1.8-litre hybrid.

The bZ4X is available in both front-wheel drive (201 hp) and all-wheel drive variants (214 hp), both powered by the same 71.4 kWh battery.

Under US EPA test cycle, driving range is rated at up to 252 miles (406 km) for front-wheel drive models and up to 228 miles (367 km) for all-wheel drive models.

For the US market, the Toyota bZ4X is equipped with CCS1 charging port that supports up to 6.6 kW AC charging and 150 kW DC fast charging.

The Toyota bZ4X measures slightly bigger than a Toyota RAV4, 3.7 inches longer in length and 0.2 inches wider, with a 6.30-inch longer wheelbase.

Closer to home, the Toyota bZ4X is expected to be launched in Malaysia in 2023, but the Malaysian specs model will mirror the Japanese / European market model, presumably with a different CCS2 charging port.

The Japanese market bZ4X uses Type 1 socket for AC charging and CHAdeMo for DC fast charging.
