340 PS mega van? 2023 Toyota Alphard Hybrid could debut by May

Now approaching the 8-year-old mark, the AH30-generation Toyota Alphard is a tad bit long in the tooth and is due for a replacement soon.

Earlier, we reported that Toyota could be introducing the next-generation Alphard as soon as May. This time around are renders of the next-gen model, said to be close to the production version.

According to Japanese publication Creative311, these renders were based on a “design that has passed internal review”, which hints at how the production version could look like when it is launched in a couple of months’ time.

Additionally, in terms of powertrain, the next-generation model is said to receive a Toyota’s Dynamic Force petrol-electric hybrid powertrains, including a turbocharged hybrid version. First fitted to the Toyota Crown Crossover, this petrol-electric hybrid delivers a combined system output of 340 PS and 542 Nm.

A turbocharged 2.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine is also said to be an option for the next-gen Alphard. Said turbocharged mill made its debut on the AZ20-generation Lexus NX, developing 279 PS and 430 Nm.

Like other modern-day Toyota model, the next-gen Alphard will be fitted with the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite, likely mirroring the new Toyota Voxy’s system, offering features such as Proactive Driving Assist (PDA), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), as well as the Toyota Teammate system (Advanced Drive and Advanced Park).

Closer to home, official Toyota distributor UMW Toyota Motor could be introducing the next-gen Alphard as soon as later this year. After all, the current-gen AH30 Alphard has been removed from their website.
