In Brief: 2019 Toyota Camry 2.5, sheer driving pleasure

What is the Toyota Camry 2019?

It’s a D-segment sedan first introduced to the Malaysian market in November 2018. Toyota wants to break the ‘uncle’s car’ image in the 8th-generation Toyota Camry which is why it's styled aggressively and rides on the highly acclaimed Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform with double-wishbones for the rear suspension.

What is the price of Toyota Camry 2019?

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) no longer assembles the Toyota Camry 2019 locally, now sourced from Toyota Gateway plant in Plaeng Yao District, Thailand.

Its fully imported nature and the fact that the Toyota Camry 2019's price point has moved into a higher bracket upwards globally means UMWT had no choice but to price the Toyota Camry 2019 2.5V at RM 196,888 (on the road without insurance).

For the price, you’re getting a tried and tested 2AR-FE 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine and 6-speed automatic combo with 184 PS and 235 Nm. This powertrain carried over from the previous generation Toyota Camry.

In the previous-generation Toyota Camry, UMWT offered the Toyota Camry with a 2.0-litre option (6AR-FSE petrol engine). However, they could not secure a competitive price tag for consumers as the new Toyota Camry 2019 2.0-litre would retail for upwards of RM 175k and that is without Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) equipped!

You’d be much happier knowing that you’ve parted your hard-earned money for bi-LED headlamps, 10-inch colour heads-up display, 9-speaker JBL surround sound system, Qi wireless charging tray, TSS Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) and only in-class powered adjusted steering wheel.

Traditionally, the Toyota Camry 2019 is known for its lacklustre driving experience that matches its sedated appearance. That’s not to undermine the Toyota Camry 2019, in fact, many owners are very happy with this ‘uncle’s car’ image.

However, in the latest-generation car, Toyota has completely rewritten the Toyota Camry 2019's rulebook. Positioning it to be a sporty and dynamic car for the young and young at heart.

The suspension and chassis balance are frankly one of the best in the segment, offering confident cornering ability without sacrificing ride pliancy that Toyota Camry 2019's are known for. How the Toyota Camry 2019 drives will make you forget that it’s using an old engine.

A Toyota salesperson once said to me: “you need to be a proper driver to understand the Camry.”

For those looking for a car to drive or driven in, the Toyota Camry 2019 will not disappoint.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr

Review: BYD Dolphin in Malaysia - A solid choice for EV beginners, except for one thing

You might be aware that Malaysia prohibits the import of electric vehicles (EVs) priced below RM 100,000, and this is indeed accurate. The rationale behind this policy, driven by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), is actually sound when you consider their goal of attracting investments in the EV sector. In the world of technology, most of the valuable stuff is in the higher-end product range. Cheaper electric cars have minimal technological sophistication; they're kind of li
