In BS6 transition, Honda India cleverly made way for many high tech feature. Thus we can see tech like start stop switch and Silent start mechanism across every Honda scooters and bikes such as SP 125, Shine and CD 110. In BS6 transition, the engine has class leading refinement level. The LED headlight actually works at night. I had a chance to TR this bike and I came out quite impressed with its riding stance, 5th gear and loaded instrument cluster. Furthermore, the bike is very Torquey in nature. Upto 70km/h, the bike responds almost like a 150cc bike. Throttle response is exceptional, thanks to dual throttle cable. The seat is now bigger in length. Long distance touring is possible. Expect a mileage of above 60+ in economy mode. Maintenance cost is industry standard. I think it's impossible for the competition to beat SP 125.
In Indonesia year of 2017 based on AISI , the biggest contribution of the first best-selling motorcycle nationally was listed Honda Beat eSP with sales of 112,782 units. Meanwhile, Yamaha mainstay is in the fifth position through Mio M3 125 CW with sales of 27,029 units. Here's the full details: 1. Honda Beat eSP = 112.782 units 2. Honda Scoopy eSP = 41.438 units 3. Honda Vario 125 eSP = 41,194 units 4. Honda Vario 150 eSP = 27.212 units 5. Yamaha Mio M3 125 CW = 27,029 units 6. Honda Beat Pop eSP = 19.949 units 7. Yamaha New V-Ixion = 13,340 units 8. Yamaha NMAX = 11,772 units 9. Yamaha All-New Soul GT = 8,545 units 10. Honda New Vario 110 FI =7,534 units
Honda LIVO and Honda Shine both are very good bikes but in different segments. Honda LIVO has 110 cc engine while Honda SHINE has 125 cc engine. If you still wanna compare between them then it's clear that 125 cc is going to give you more power than 110 cc. SHINE is very good in performance with a silent engine and with very low cost of maintenance. But LIVO beats SHINE in asthetic.
In 110 cc segment TVS Jupiter is undoubtedly the best scooter you can buy. It has refined engine with crisp acceleration & unmatched stability even at above 80kmph thanks to 12 inch grippy tubeless tyres with black alloy wheels. Superb telescopic suspension. Very practical features like mobile charger, pass light switch, conveniently placed hooks, easy main stand. Not to forget very cusomer friendly aftersales service unlike Honda. I have used both Activa 3G & Jupiter & I feel Jupiter beats Activa, Hero Maestro, Yamaha Fascino hands down on all aspects. Honda mostly sells due to strong brand name. Its high time for Honda now, you can't take your customers for granted.
Honda and Yamaha both have good scooters but Honda has a better edge for fuel efficiency and reliability as they implement their car technology into their new FI scooters. Honda BeAt FI made in Indonesia is enjoying around 60km/liter or 37miles/liter mileage.
For normal driving useage, torque ALWAYS beats horsepower! Horsepower is the measure of the amount of work an “engine” can perform. It is expressed as a lifting capacity. A 10 hp B&S engine can lift the equivalent weight that 10 “standard” horses can lift (in simple terms). Torque is the twisting motion that can be applied to an axle. 100 foot pounds of torque apllied to a vehicle axle will determine the rate the vehicle will accelerate. 100 horsepower has the ability to, perhaps , overcome the mechanical and aerodynamic drag of a given vehicle to sustain a speed of 100 miles per hour. 100 foot pounds of torque has the accelerative force to reach 100 miles per hour in 20 seconds for said given vehicle. If the engine horsepower where increased to 125, the vehicle will reach 110 miles per hour, but will take 25 seconds. However, if torque were increased to 125 foot pounds with horsepower remaining at 100, the vehicle will take 17 seconds to reach 100 miles per hour. Most people care little about top speed. The speed limits are generally in the 75 mph 125 kph range. Most modern vehicles reach a top speed of 100 mph with 125 bhp. The performance that is important to most people is the zero to 60 mph acceleration time. Most cars with 150 foot pounds of torque will reach 60 mph in 10 seconds. If Honda adds 15 more foot pounds of torque, giving up 15 bhp, the net effect is a loss of perhaps 5 mph in top speed (95) with a decrease of zero to 60 time of 1 second. The car is now faster accelerating but has a lower top speed. In the end, even 95 mph will get one a speeding ticket. Beating the driver next to you at the light by a second will get one a 4 car length advantage to the next light and no ticket! I think most people could care less about horsepower. Torque is what people feel as performance!
I was coming home from Long Island going through Brooklyn on the Belt Parkway. It was after midnight and there was pretty close to zero cars on the road. I was in a Honda Accord doing 110 in a 50 and saw the lights in the rearview. To say that I was scared at this point is the understatement of understatements. I had heard that in such extreme cases that the driver got a pretty good beat down both physically and verbally in similar instances. Mostly urban legend I suppose. I nearly slammed on the brakes as I wanted to ensure the officer knew I fully intended on stopping and complying. I pulled over to the shoulder and waited. It was a relatively uneventful stop. Officer asked where I was going in such a hurry. I told him I was coming home from my girlfriends house in Long Island and that I was tired and I was just in a hurry to get home and get some sleep so I could function at work the next day. (this was a Sunday night). The officer remarked that if I was tired, it was probably not the smartest thing to be doing 110 miles an hour regardless of the traffic. Obviously, he was right. He gave me the ticket and I was on my way. $320. This wasn't 160 but there you have it. Also, not a state trooper, it was a local NYPD LEO.
