immobiliser specialist Q&A Review

If you lived in the Star Wars universe, then what ship, blaster, extra weapons, and astromech would you choose?

If I had to live in the Star Wars Universe, then I would have very particular tastes and needs. First order of business would be procuring a flagship that instills dread and fear in all who see her. A ship that others flee at the mere mention of her name. Only one ship comes into my mind. General Grievous' Malevolence. Dwarfing all Republic destroyers, and appearing as a long, spearlike weapon, she certainly stood out in the vast cold of space. Built in secret by the Separatists of the Clone Wars', the Malevolence was overkill incarnate. Equipped with an automated crew of battle droids to keep the ship operating, an entire complement of Vulture droids to repel attacks and laden with all kinds of Separatist technology, this ship was full of secrets. Up until the Republic discovered it, it's biggest secret was it's ship disabling weapon. A weapon of unprecedented design and terror. It's giant twin Ion cannons. With this superweapon at its disposal, the Malevolence was unstoppable. Able to render an entire enemy fleet useless as it fries all electronic systems, it will serve as my flagship. Besides, I'm quite partial to the lighting aboard it's bridge. It's dank, yet stylish in a good way! As for my own personal support vessel, I choose the ship of Master starship designer, Darth Tenebrous/Rugess Nome himself. The 'Scimitar'. With its sleek and sexy aesthetics, this was one very cool Starship. Boasting sub light engines that would make Han Solo blush, and an exotic array of sophisticated weaponry, this Sith explorer was decades ahead of its time. Contained inside it's bow were a speeder, of Rugess Nome design also, and three probe droids to assist in hunting down objectives imperative to your success. It's greatest secret was my favourite. The ability to invisibly cloak itself. This alone sells it as my perfect support vehicle, giving me the element of surprise in any engagement. Moving onto blasters and extra weapons, I only have two in mind. The first will serve as my main weapon of choice, and it's equipped with the only function I need. This is the, now illegal, T-7 Ion disruptor. Developed by the Empire to serve as a rifle capable of immobilizing vehicles, they quickly became aware of its most gruesome capability. The T-7 is just a smaller version of the Malevolences Ion cannon. When fired at vehicles and ships, its electromagnetic pulse immobilises anything with electronic systems. When fired at organic beings, it turns you inside out and disperses you violently into the air. The only primary weapon I need. As for pistols, I choose the twin blasters that made bounty hunter Cad Bame infamous. And exceedingly wealthy. Twin LL-30 Blasters. Accuracy, range and firing modes are second to none, and style is on par with the opulent pistols of the Naboo armed forces of Theed. Nuff said. Moving onto my last request. Scrap the astromech, and bring me the droids that I'm looking for. This is a Proxy droid and will serve as onboard training instructor and copilot. Programmed in over 1000 fighting styles, and proficient at handling most blasters, this droid had one more amazing feature. Able to use its onboard Holo projectors to disguise itself as anyone it's encountered, coupled with its amazing effectiveness at combat, made this droid an invaluable asset. Secondly I require this 2–1B medical droid. Eliminating the need to seek doctors and specialist physicians, this medical marvel had 1000s of pre programmed procedures to ensure you'd remain healthy enough to pull the ears off a Gundark. Another droid that proves invaluable as ships doctor. Lastly I select a droid of unprecedented intelligence and loyalty. A droid capable of leaving the confines of the ship, and going in need of vital supplies. A droid capable of disarming an entire room of adversaries and making it look effortless. Also a droid that can go unnoticed until she's ripping your head off. This is Guri, and she served Black Sun crime Lord, Prince Xixor during the Galactic Civil War. Capable of breaking confines with ease, she was the ultimate in droid evolution. Serving as a personal assistant and bodyguard, Guri could cook you a Michelin star meal, or bench press your opposition out the door. One of a kind, she was sought by prospective buyers from one end of the galaxy, to the other. The perfect droid. She could even pass as your date if any rich Muuns invite you out to dinner, and have a 'plus One' on the invitation. Screw the Wookie, I'm taking her.

What is the biggest mistake that has happened in Indian political history?

Releasing this man Maulana Masood Azhar after Kandhar Hijack(responsible for recent Uri attack) Kandhar Hijack The hijacking of an Indian Airlines aircraft to Kandahar by Pakistani terrorists in December 1999 will continue to haunt India for long. India lost face and we had to beg those countries which were involved in undermining our internal security., The hijacking revealed how ill-prepared India was to face up to the challenges of international terrorism. The government's poor crisis-management skills and extreme complacency in security matters allowed the hijackers to take off from Amritsar airport after 39 minutes halt for refueling, thereby letting the problem get out of control. Missed chances 1., Amritsar Captain Sharan requested refuelling for the aircraft. However, the Crisis Management Group in Delhi directed ,Amritsar Airport, authorities to ensure that the plane was immobilised. The armed personnel of the Punjab police were already in position to try and do this. They did not receive approval from New Delhi. Eventually, a fuel tanker was dispatched and instructed to block the approach of the aircraft. As the tanker sped towards the aircraft, air traffic control radioed the pilot to slow down, and the tanker immediately came to a stop. This sudden stop aroused the hijackers' suspicion and they forced the aircraft to take off immediately, without clearance from air traffic control. The aircraft missed the tanker by only a few feet 2.,Dubai, UAE The aircraft took off for Dubai from Lahore(where it stopped for refuelling) 27 passengers aboard the flight were released. In Dubai. Indian authorities wanted to carry out a commando hijack specialist operation in Dubai involving Indian military officials, which was rejected by the ,UAE, government. Finally, the jihadis took the plane to militant’s safe haven The hijackers then asked the pilot to land the plane in Kandahar, Afghanistan. As the aircraft landed in Kandahar, Taliban militants surrounded the aircraft. Taliban claimed that it was an attempt to dissuade the hijackers from killing or injuring the hostage but indeed it was done to prevent an Indian military operation against the hijackers. To draw international media attention, Taliban took the role of mediators between the hijackers and the Indian government. The hijackers demanded release of three militants – Maulana Masood Azhar, Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar and Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh . Having no option left, then Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh went Kandahar along with the three terrorists. After the three militants landed in Kandahar, the hostages aboard the flight were freed. On 31 December 1999, the freed hostages were flown back through special plane. The five hijackers departed with a Taliban hostage to ensure their safe passage. Indian Airlines Flight 814 Kandahar Hijack: Revisit the story of five terrorists bringing India on its knees, trading 176 lives for 3 terrorists! The Real Story: Kandahar Hijacking, Not A ‘Goof Up’ But A Major Cover Up How did we pay for it?? Azhar after his release established terrorist organisation ,Jaish-e-Mohammed, which has carried out three deadly attacks on our country 1.,2001 Indian Parliament attack 2. ,2016 Pathankot attack 3. ,2016 Uri attack Uri attack is most recent one where we lost 18 brave soldiers. Had India tried some other strategy, had we used the opportunity and acted swiftly in Amritsar we could’ve saved the life of so many martyrs:(:(

Can humanity create more destructive weapons than fission or hydrogen bombs?

Not really, to all intents & practical purposes. There could eventually be anti matter weapons, but that’s likely to be very far into the future. Anti matter is incredibly difficult to produce at present, & I’m not sure it would be possible to do it for perhaps many centuries. Hydrogen bombs are awesomely powerful already, & could be made much bigger than the 57 megaton “Tsar Bomba,” tested by Russia. There is in theory no upper limit to the power of a hydrogen bomb, though in practise, size, weight, the amount of fissile material available, & method of delivery, would limit one. The trend is smaller, but more accurate nukes, not “monster sized” ones. Though not actually more destructive than hydrogen bombs, I think that the future of modern warfare is DEW (Directed Energy Weapons). The CHAMP high power microwave system, developed by Boeing, & similar weapons, could reportedly immobilise a whole group of battle tanks on the ground. They “fry” the electronics & could render any modern equipment, tanks, planes or ships, useless. Then there are the particle beam weapons & very high powered lasers. Fire is in itself a very powerful weapon, & whole swathes of land could be set ablaze with ease from the sky by such weapons. EMP from specialist high altitude detonated nukes, is another thing that could have dire consequences,as everything depends on electronics nowadays. I doubt society could cope with the computers out of action & little electricity, especially with no, or very few, mains supplies in operation in many places. I don’t think the military really see much point in mega-powerful weapons that are indiscriminate, killing friend & foe alike, & that could destroy nearly all life on our planet. Probably the nearest thing to such a “Doomsday Weapon” would be Cobalt clad massive hydrogen bombs of 1 Gigaton, or even more, that could be produced by current technology, & would result in very long lasting radiation that would ruin the planet for all humans & many other species. I’d say it is the so called “Star Wars” developments, with deadly rays both from aircraft & satellites, that I’d be more concerned about. Zapping their targets to obtain precise military objectives. I think many people would be surprised by what even our current military technology can do now. Bear in mind that military technology will be at least 25 years or more ahead of what most civilians know about & assume to be possible.

Why do the UK police sometimes buy 'luxury' cars?

These tend to be vehicles used in specialist roles such as firearms support group or roads policing. They need higher performance vehicles as there are so few of them they need to be able to deploy quickly to an incident. Another reason is that these vehicles are used in pursuits and the use of TPAC (Tactical Pursuit And Containment) during the use of TPAC several cars will attempt to box in a subject vehicle bringing it to a controlled stop. This inevitably involves some kind of collision and therefore the stronger/heavier build associated with the vehicles you mentioned is necessary to prevent harm to both the officers and the subjects. The use of high performance cars such as mitsubishi evo's etc is necessary due to the increase in theft of high performance vehicles. These days most vehicles have sophisticated alarm/immobiliser systems. Thieves have taken to committing burglaries in order to take the keys to performance or prestige cars - the police need a pursuit capability in these situations and a diesel powered beat car isn't really going to cut the mustard!

Why is the Barrett .50 calibre rifle considered to be a poor choice as a sniper's rifle?

.50s and even larger calibre sniper rifles are specialist weapons. They have a longer range than a 7.62x51mm or even .308, but their speciality is their penetrative power which allows snipers to hit targets behind cover and immobilise vehicles. But they’re big and heavy, and not very practical unless you’re in a fixed fortification or have a vehicle to carry it in. If you have to move on foot from position to position stealthily and fire and move, it’s ungainly and probably a poor choice.

How do I solve an XUV500 engine sign problem?

I own a XUV 5oo and recently faced the problem of Engine not starting. The vehicle is 4 years old W8 FWD and never faced any problem till then. On the given day it travelled from morning since 6 am till evening 4 pm IST only with some Tea/Snacks/lunch breaks in between. When it was made to stop for alighting some friends in the last destination while coming back, it refused to start again. An ,ENGINE!, sign was displayed on the instrument panel alongwith an Immobiliser sign(HalfCar and Half Lock Symbol). Initially everyone thought it could be a battery problem, so Battery Service Mechanic was called, but as the battery was new, recently changed, it was found to be working fine. Next, an Auto Mechanic was called they could not understand the issue, but one of them was smart enough to suggest of the Code checker using the OBD(On Board Diagnostic) tool. Soon a handheld device was summoned, but it could not get the relevant details. So a specific Mahindra Device was requisitioned by the local mechanic from a special friend of his from other town. He came the next day… When the specific device was connected, it showed Immobiliser Error codes and he advised us to upgrade the codes, which would be done by another specialist in the field. So now we had to wait, may be one more day, to resolve the issue. Fortunately, the local mechanic asked whether the key was dropped or got wet in rain? Instantly the Cyber Professional in me awakened and thought may be the key was damaged by chance(it was raining heavily on that day) and the FOB chip was not giving correct signal. I took the spare key(FOB) out and tried the same and hey the car started immediately!!!!!!! So, the problem was the FOB malfunction. Here's how the FOB works: The transmitter's controller chip has a memory location that holds the current 40-bit code. When you push a button on your ,key fob,, it sends that 40-bit code along with a function code that tells the car what you want to do (lock the doors, unlock the doors, open the trunk, etc.) and depending on the car architecture, the following are some ,Control Systems, that can be enabled or disabled: ESCL Electric Steering Column Lock EIS Electronic Ignition Switch Central door locking system Immobiliser Engine Control Unit, (Motor management system) BCU Body control unit. Hence, in modern cars we need to remember that the problem may start with the Key(FOB) itself!!! and need to isolate it first.

Should you take an accident victim to the hospital without waiting for an ambulance if there is a severe head injury?

As the others have said - NO! I once worked in a specialist spinal injuries unit (just as a porter - a student holiday job). I saw the frustration & anger on the faces of doctors when they realised that a person brought in had been rendered permanently paralysed from the chest down ,because he’d been moved,. He’d had full sensation & movement in his fingers & toes after his accident, but he’d been moved before his head & spine had been immobilised, & his spinal cord had been badly injured. Years after that I was knocked off my bike by a car. I came round sitting beside my bike, with my back to a fence. The rear light was on, so I reached out to switch it off - and my neck hurt. And my fingers & toes tingled. So I sat as still as I could, in terror, until someone walked past. He asked me if I needed help, I told him what had happened, & he said “Don’t move your head” & went for help (this was before most people had mobile phones). When the ambulance arrived (by which time I had a little crowd of well-wishers: one had gone off to phone my girlfriend, who arrived just after the ambulance), the paramedics in it very carefully strapped me to a brace which kept my head, neck & back still. My spinal cord was OK: my spine wasn’t broken, & my symptoms were just the result of the bending & shock to my neck from landing on my head, & passed off quickly. But I could have had exactly the same symptoms from a broken spine exerting a bit of pressure on my spinal cord, & one false move could have severely damaged or even severed it. And that’s not the only way you could inadvertently cripple or kill someone.

What made you go from "meh, it will resolve itself" to "Holy crap! I need to see a doctor" or "Oh, crap! I have to go to the hospital"?

In 2017, I was 21 and in a bad place with my mental health. My social anxiety was extremely high, and I was still working through a major case of agoraphobia, so I found it very difficult leaving the house and interacting with people. I therefor had a bad tendency to try and ignore anything that would demand I seek out professional help, problems with my physical health included. April of that year, I developed an ulcer on the right side of my tongue. I knew after a few weeks that it was getting larger and not healing, but I figured I could take care of it myself. No need to be alarmed, I just needed to start in on some DIY first aid. I started doing daily salt water mouthwashes to prevent infection, and only chewed with the left side of my mouth. A month and a half in, and it hurt to talk, chew, and swallow. The ulcer had begun to press hard against one of my back teeth, and had become badly lacerated. The longer I ignored it, the deeper the cut became, and despite my then triple-daily salt water mouthwashes, I could tell it was infected. I thought it had to have been the sharp back tooth causing the damage, surely. I gathered all the courage I’d been trying to build for three years with exposure therapy, told my family what was going on, and asked to be taken to a dentist to get the tooth filed down. One of the hardest things I’ve ever done, let me tell you, including everything that was about to follow (mental illness is no joke). But it was also the best decision I’ve ever made. My dentist took one look at the ulcer, and said “No tooth should be able to do that. You need to get it checked out ASAP”. He referred us to a mouth and throat specialist for a biopsy two days later. Within a week, we had the answer: tongue cancer. A stage 2 squamous cell carcinoma, despite me never having smoked, not being a drinker (apparently a factor if you smoke), and the whole only being 21 at the time part. No one else on my ward was under 65 during my stay in hospital, and that brief look at what an end-of-life, incurable head and neck cancer can do to people will never leave me. Please, take it from someone who knows, ,no, addiction is ever worth risking what I’ve been through and what I’ve seen. Smoking doesn’t just kill, smoking tortures. Smoking mutilates. Smoking drags your loved ones into suffering helplessly alongside you until the end. ,Anything, you can do to lessen your chances of going through that… take it. I was incredibly, incredibly lucky. We caught it early, I’m young and heal quickly, I live in a country with universal healthcare, and I had my family to support me. I’ll never stop being grateful. Tongue cancer usually goes undetected for a lot longer, due to it not often causing pain or any alarm-raising symptoms until it’s too late. The fact that mine grew at a fast pace, and started causing pain by pressing into the tooth, is probably the only reason I’m still alive. Because I know for a fact that any milder symptoms at the time, anything I thought I could hide/deal with on my own? I would have kept quiet. I had amazing surgeons who made me feel nothing but safe, and a wonderful nursing team who got me through two weeks of a bed-ridden stay in hospital, at a time when simply walking out my front gate could induce panic attacks. I had a forearm free flap to transfer muscle, veins, a tendon, and nerves to the site where they had to reconstruct part of my tongue and throat, and a neck dissection to remove my lymph nodes on the right side (just in case, as that’s where the cancer would most likely have jumped to if it was going to spread). I was hooked up to three draining tubes, an arterial catheter, a venous catheter, the least fun type of catheter, an ECG monitor, a nasal cannula, and a nasal feeding tube. I’ve never been so immobilised and so on display. So… my cancer basically forced me through two weeks of mandatory, high-intensity, exposure therapy bootcamp. It was sink or swim, and at the end of it all, I got to go home with the all clear. Learning to talk again was no mean feat, and it’s not like I suddenly found having to be out in public magically stress-free overnight. But I’ve been cancer free for nearly three years now, and have only had one panic attack since. I am also forced to take my physical health a lot more seriously; I go to regular check-ups, and don’t have the luxury of ignoring anything seemingly small anymore. I am thankful for everything I’ve been through, because I think it’s made me a stronger, wiser, healthier, better person overall. However, I never want to put my family through anything like that ever again, and I now do my best to stress the importance of taking health problems and cancer risks seriously to everyone else I come across.

What is so complicated about a broken arm that a doctor has to do it? No I have not attempted this.

There are a number of different types of fracture, some of which do not require a doctor, but do require experience in setting it properly. A green stick, simple transverse or oblique, undisplaced fracture will heal on it’s own if it is immobilised properly. Problems started is the fracture is open (broken the skin) or comminuted (broken in several places). These require specialist treatment due to increases risk of infection and possible surgery to ensure it heals correctly and in proper alignment.

In a post-apocalyptic "Walking Dead" scenario, would there be no profound psychological damage brought on by stabbing countless former humans in the head? This seems to be a consideration that was never addressed on the show.

I’ll go out on a limb here and suggest that the ,vast, majority of the survivors would be basket-case level traumatised, pretty much the whole time. The combination of losing everyone and everything you ever loved, your whole social, family and cultural structure disappearing, never being entirely safe, never being able to completely relax and let down your guard, constant violence (even if you’re lucky enough to avoid other predatory survivors and the only violence is against the undead), would all combine to render just about everyone as massively PTSD’ed. War veterans get permanently scarred by a whole lot less - and at least they have some ‘normal’ world to return to. In a zombie apocalypse it’s gone forever - tere’s no hope whatsoever. Morgan is probably one of the only ‘realistic’ characters (another one might be the leader of the Wolves, who seemed intent on killing everyone in Alexandria for no real reason, convinced that death was a ‘gift’ he was bringing them) - alternating between extreme pacifism and almost psychotic serial-killer violence, often hallucinating, sometimes murderously angry, sometimes taking almost suicidal actions in the hope that someone kills him. I’d expect to see those kind of issues in just about everyone - combined with crushing, immobilising periods of depression, crippling panic attacks, emotional tantrums and homicidal rages - or else absolutely ‘dead inside’ flat emotional states, totally disconnected from their own feelings. It would actually be quite interesting to do a ‘zombie’ series that closely followed the emotional lives of a group of survivors, and focussed more on how they deal with their internal issues rather than the flesh-and-gore external threat, and had real psychologists and PTSD specialists advising on believable emotional reactions. I’m guessing that it would be a good deal too bleak, shocking, and dark for the majority of viewers though. Fairly ‘normal’, average people have been known to descend into insanity, abuse, rape, cannibalism, sadism, torture, self-destruction and suicide in situations a good deal less extreme than a global zombie apocalypse. You can read up on some of the nastier aspects of the battle of Stalingrad, the siege of Leningrad, the Nazi holocaust and life in the concentration camps, the killing fields of Cambodia etc (if you have a strong stomach) to get a general idea of what happens in groups of humans when situations become bad enough, extreme enough.
