transmission kdd Q&A Review

Does Koenigsegg Regera have a gearbox?

No it doesn't!! It is based on Direct Drive(which basically means no use of any gearbox and power is directly sent from source of power i.e. Motor, engine, etc.) The Koenigsegg Direct Drive transmission (KDD) was invented by Christian von Koenigsegg and developed for the Regera by the Koenigsegg Advanced Engineering team. The patent-pending KDD replaces the combustion engine’s traditional transmission – the gearbox as you know it is removed from the car. In its place, the KDD provides direct drive to the rear axle from the combustion engine without the need of multitude gears or a variable transmissions, all of which have inherently high energy losses. During highway travel, for example, the KDD reduces drivetrain losses compared to a traditional transmission or CVT by over 50% as there is no step up or step down gear working in series with the final drive – just direct power sent from the engine to the wheels. The Regera has three YASA developed electric motors, which supplement the energy from the combustion engine. Aside from providing extreme responsiveness, these electric motors also allow for torque vectoring, regenerative braking and energy conversion. YASA´s axial flux motors are extremely power dense, making them a key-ingredient for the KDD. There is one YASA motor for each rear wheel, providing electric direct drive, and one on the crankshaft that provides torque-fill, electrical generation and starter motor functionality. The three electric motors constitute the most powerful electrical motor set-up in production car history, replacing the gears of a normal transmission. This provides all-important weight savings as well as adding power, torque and torque vectoring capability. Koenigsegg has developed a clutch-slip mechanism that uses the hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration. This allows the combustion engine to gain revs and power, thereby giving the sensation of a traditional downshift with the associated aural enjoyment, even without the traditional gearbox. Shift paddles remain on either side of the steering wheel. The left paddle is used to enhance regenerative braking effect in recharging the battery pack. The right paddle is used to activate the hydraulic coupling’s ‘downshift’ operation. Even after all this the figures are staggering - POWERTRAIN STATS 1100 Hp of combustion engine power on 91 octane DIN or 95 octane RON (a bit more on E85) 1250 Nm of combustion engine torque 700 Hp of electric propulsion 900 Nm of electric torque 4.5 kWh 800 Volt, flooded liquid cooled battery pack COMBINED NUMBERS Over 1500 hp or 1.11 MW Over 2000 Nm of torque Dry weight 1470 kg 1,590 kg curb weight (including all liquids and full fuel tank) Some interesting things to note - The Regera has almost triple as many electric Bhp (700 Bhp) and over 300 Bhp more than its closest hybrid rival. The complete KDD system, including the battery, adds a mere 88kg to the Regera´s weight, compared to what the Regera would have weighed with a traditional ICE, coupled to a 7 speed DCT transmission, instead of the KDD. Presently no other hybrid Hypercar even comes close to this type of weight ratio for their electrification. The combination of electrical and combustion power is just mind boggling. When you get up to speed, the system really comes into play - How about 3.2 seconds between 150 to 250 km/h and under 20 seconds from 0 to 400 km/h? (which is fastest in the world for 0–400kmph)

What's the coolest feature you've seen in a car? Preferably something that isn't very common, such as the rain channels in the Mercedes S-class that channel rain from the windshield away from the side windows, & nothing related to self-driving cars.

The Koenigsegg Regera Direct Drive system. The system allows the car to do 0-260mph without even switching gears. It is a single fixed gear invented by Christian von Koenigsegg the companies founder. It replaces the combustion engines traditional transmission, in fact the entire gearbox is removed. In its place, the KDD provides direct drive to the rear axle from the combustion engine without the need of multitude gears or a variable transmissions, all of which have inherently high energy losses. That change decreases power loss by over 50% allowing for a higher efficiency in power and torque while decreasing the overall weight of the car by 200lbs in comparison to if it was fitted with a regular gearbox. A very cool feature for a car I must say. You can read all about it by clicking this link: ,Engineering Explained: How The Koenigsegg Regera Hypercar Drives Without A Gearbox

What is your dream car?

If I had enough money right now I would have definitely bought Koenigsegg Regera. There are very interesting things about Koenigsegg and I really admire their work. They have managed to do wonders with every single launch and not just wonders but world records with the Koenigsegg Agera, CCXR, One:1, and Regera. The best thing about Regera is Koenigsegg Direct Drive. It means they have not used any gearbox and this is first time in automotive industry. What is the best car engine so far?

The Tiny friendly giant engine (TFG)., The Koenigsegg Tiny Friendly Giant Twin Turbo Freevalve ,3-cylinder, Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) with ,dry sump lubrication, is used in the new ,4 seater hypercar- Koenigsegg Gamera. Here in the TFG both the intake and exhaust valves can be, opened and closed at any desired crankshaft angle and to any desired lift height. This is possible due to the ,absence of camshafts, for the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves and the use of ,pneumatic actuators ,instead. ,The rail controls the triggering, of the intake and exhaust actuators depending upon the engine mode and the driving conditions. The TFG delivers low fuel consumption and emission numbers,, while still delivering massive torque and power. With three electric motors and the patented single-gear ,Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD), , transmission adds up the total output to ,1700 bhp of power and 3500 Nm of torque (600bhp of power without the electric motors). Freevalves, , ,technology in the TFG has an estimated, fuel consumption of 15 – 20% less ,than a typical modern four-cylinder two-liter engine with direct injection and variable camshaft. The dry-sump lubrication system, , helps to shrink the engine size even more and sums up the ,curb weight to 1850 kg. This Tiny rascal can make the Gamera go from, 0–100 kmph in only 1.9 second, , . The Buggati Chiron does the same in 2.5 seconds with 16 cylinder, , . :)

What are good technical topics on which I can make a PowerPoint presentation?

Before answering this question, I would like to make it clear that my answer would be hovering around the topics related to Computer Science and/or Information Technology/Systems: 1- Distributed Computing:, Distributed computing is the technology of the coming age. As technology advances, so will be the size of data produced and the problems that come bundled with it. The storage/manipulation/fabrication is not feasible on a single system, hence it's divided to various nodes (computing machines) that form a cluster. Some cutting edge research has already been done in this field. Some associated technology includes: Hadoop, Jade, curl etc. 2- Data Mining:, It's also known as KDD (Knowledge Discovery in Databases). The name says it all. Digging out data to find the hidden valuable information is known as data mining. Data mining is currently a hot topic among various research fronts. 3- Gesture Recognition Technology:, We've heard about this n number if times. It's the science to bring correlation between various human gestures and mathematical algorithms. This can be expanded to emotion recognition technology as well. A well informed presentation in this field is sure to bring accolades. ,4- Indian Railways Signalling System and/or IRCTC:, Though many might not find this very interesting or lucrative, in my opinion it's one of the most complicated thing to ever exist. Managing over 2000+ trains at any given time, IR signalling system is worth every case study. Though, previously they used old Semaphore signalling, latest up-gradations have certainly helped to manage the system much efficiently. Not to mention IRCTC, the one that has taken a huge pie of IRs counter crowd. 5- Mobile Jamming Devices:, These devices, initially used only by state forces, overpower the mobile signals(GSM and CDMA) and bring their connectivity to a halt. A jamming device transmits on the same radio frequencies as the cell phone, disrupting the communication between the phone and the cell-phone base station in the locality/town/city etc. This is very crucial technology in military warfare. 6- Anonymous Communication:, Anonymous communication is a necessary measure taken by the government, to protect the privacy of users, and protect computer systems against traffic analysis. Anonymity systems seeks to build an infrastructure running on top of the existing Internet protocols that allows people to communicate with each other without necessarily revealing their personal network identifiers. 7- Self Defending Networks:, With the advent of new technologies, various hacking mechanism evolve too. An analogy to this would be, as girls today need to be taught Martial Arts, Judo, Karate etc. for self defense, on similar lines, networks today need to protect themselves (a measure generally adopted as first line of defense). The complexity may evolve to enable them protect themselves with(out) slightest human intervention. ,8- Wireless transmission of electricity (or Wireless charging of phones):, We all heard about the wireless charging capabilities of Nokia Lumia 920 and 820. But the technology that powers this definitely needs a mention. Wireless power is the transmission of electrical energy from a power source to an electrical load without man-made is commonly transmitted in the form of ,direct ,or, resonant magnetic induction. ,Any good presentation can be made out of this. 9- Wireless Fidelity (or WiFi):, This is a hot favourite topic amongst engineers. WiFi technology enables wireless transmission of data from one node to other. It shares its own share of similarities and differences with Bluetooth. This evergreen topic may make your presentation all-green. 10- Image Processing:, Another lovely topic. Image processing has various application in health sciences. Its objective is to help the doctor view a particular frame of interest captured from a medical equipment which is usually an AVI image and to enable the doctor to manipulate the frame for correct diagnosis and provide efficient treatment Hope that helps. All the best for your presentation.

It was unveiled at the 2015 ,Geneva Motor Show,. The name Regera is a Swedish verb, meaning "to reign" or "to rule." Only 80 units will be built, of which 40 have already been sold as of March 2016, each costing approximatelyUS$1.9 million. The Regera was created and designed to be a more “practical”, “luxury”, hypercar alternative to the rest of Koenigsegg’s lightweight hypercar lineup, including the ,Agera, RS and the One:1. Koenigsegg states that the Regera will be the most powerful and fastest accelerating production car ever. The production of the Regera will result in Koenigsegg, for the first time ever, simultaneously having two models in production. Specifications The Regera produces a reported total of 1,822 metric horsepower through a ,hybrid powertrain,. However, because the ,internal combustion engine, (ICE) in the Regera has a fixed gear instead of a gearbox and therefore only delivers peak power at a very high speed while the electrical motors in the Regera deliver their peak power at a lower speed, the power peaks of the ICE and the electrical motors are spread out, or not simultaneous, leaving a maximum combined mechanical output of 1,500 metric horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque. The ICE is a mid-rear mounted, in-house developed, ,twin-turbocharged, ,V8 engine, with a 5.0-litre capacity. It produces 820 kW (1,100 bhp; 1,115 PS) at 7,800 RPM and 1,280 Nm (944.1 ft-lb) at 4,100 RPM. It works in conjunction with three ,YASA, electric motors with a total capacity of 520 kW (697 bhp) and 900 Nm (663.8 ft-lb) of torque. One 215 bhp (160 kW) electric motor on the crankshaft supplies torque fill while acting as both a generator and a starter motor and two 241 bhp (180 kW) wheel shaft mounted electric motors drive the rear wheels and provide ,torque vectoring,. The electric motors are powered by a 4.5 kWh, 800-volt, 90 kg liquid cooled battery pack developed by,Rimac Automobili,, making it the first 800 volt production car. Koenigsegg claims that the battery pack is the most power-dense battery pack ever created for a production car. Transmission Christian von Koenigsegg, invented the Koenigsegg Direct Drive System (KDD) and it was developed for the Regera by the Koenigsegg Advanced Engineering Team. The KDD system effectively eliminates the need for a transmission and allows for pure EV (electric vehicle) mode. The Regera doesn't have a traditional multi-gear transmission but instead features a single-speed fixed gear transmission, often called a ,direct drive,, with a 2.73:1 ,reduction ratio,, meaning the crankshaft mounted on the ICE will rotate 2.73 times for every 1 time that the output shaft of the direct drive mechanism will rotate. At speeds below 30 mph, mostly the wheel shaft electric motors propel the car through the use of a hydraulic coupling that lets the ICE and the crankshaft mounted electric motor slip. In reverse, only the wheel shaft electric motors propel the car. Above 30 mph, the RPM of the crankshaft mounted electric motor and internal combustion engine are proportional to wheel speed through locking of the hydraulic coupling. However, in the first driving footage from the Regera through Koenigseggs official Youtube channel, Christian von Koenigsegg described and demonstrated how the Regera features a steering wheel mounted paddle that simulates a traditional downshift by initiating slip of the hydraulic coupling connecting the crankshaft to the output shaft. This results in higher RPM of the ICE and the cranskshaft mounted electric motor and therefore higher power at lower speeds than what would have been possible if the coupling would have been locked at all times. Koenigsegg reported that the omission of a gearbox and addition of electric motors and battery only added 88 kg (194 lb) compared to what the Regera would have weighed with the same combustion engine but a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch) transmission and no electric motors or batteries. Interior Features The Regera will include added insulation to help add to the “luxury” by reducing cabin noise caused by wind and ‘powertrain’ noises. Also included as an added “luxury” item over previous models will be 8 way electrically adjustable memory foam seats. The Regera will also include many new tech features such as a Koenigsegg 9-inch ‘infotainment’ system, a complete camera system with recording capabilities (front, inner, and rear), Apple ‘CarPlay’, a new sound system, ambient lighting, and 3G and Wi-fi connectivity. It will also feature front and rear parking sensors to help “make parking easier”. The Regera will feature active engine mounts for the ICE and transmission to rest on. The engine mounts are designed to stay soft at lower speeds, significantly reducing vibrations and engine noise, adding to the "luxury" effect of the vehicle. While driving more aggressively or at higher speeds, the engine mounts will firm up, giving greater lateral response to the vehicle. Exterior Features Christian von Koenigsegg believes that a good design of the day-time running (DRL) lights on a vehicle gives it "character," and developed a DRL system that is supposed to resemble a constellation with the carbon fiber background resembling the night sky. Koenigsegg claims that the Regera is the first "fully-robotized" car. The vehicle features hydraulic pumps and accumulators to control the active front and rear wings, as well as active chassis control and lifting. Hydraulic lifters were added to the already existing pumps and accumulators to allow for all body panels on the vehicle to be remotely operated. Performance Koenigsegg states that the car has a top speed of 410 km/h (255 mph), is capable of reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds, 300 km/h (190 mph) in 10.9 seconds, and a speed of 400 km/h (250 mph) in 20 seconds. Koenigsegg also claims that the acceleration from 150 to 250 km/h (from 93 to 155 mph) requires 3.9 seconds. Now… Have a look at this beast…

What is the idea behind Koenigsegg Regera's direct drive?

Koenigsegg a Swedish hyper car manufacture and a company that use new innovation in their car technology recently Christian von Koenigsegg CEO of this company invented a direct drive system in a new car name Koenigsegg Regera .Regera is a Swedish word meaning “to rule”. What is the story behind this innovation and how it is work? When Mr Koenigsegg drive his tesla model s he get surprised that the full electric drive of tesla model s accelerate so quickly and he decided to make new type of hybrid system in their cars then he and his team invented a single gear direct drive transmission which gives a constant driving ratio of 2.73:1 the KDD or Koenigsegg direct drive system has 3 electric motors and one 5.0 l twin turbo v8 it is rear wheel drive car the two motors are mounted on rear axle giving g power to rear axle and one motor is attached to flywheel of the engine which works as starter motor and alternator in the car when it generate electricity and store it in liquid cooled lithium ion battery pack the car engine is always not connected with the rear differential when we start the car the car engine start and two rear axle motor get on when we drive the car up to speed of 30 mph or 95 kmph the electric motors o lunch drive the car as speed reaches above 30 mph a hydraulic actuator couples the engine from rear differential and gives power to vehical and the acceleration of this car is 0–100 kmph or 0–60mph in 2.6 seconds this car is so fast because two motor and twin turbo v7 engine both give power to rear axle and it is a plug in hybrid car which means we can recharge battery from external power source via a charging cable.
