Now this is interesting, as a recent report from Automachi claims that the upcoming Perodua D55L will get a model name that starts with an “A”.
Seeing that Perodua has yet to register any new names recently, we believe that the company may potentially pick a name that was registered a few years ago, including names such as Atriva, Axeda, and Ativa.

], 'div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0').addService(googletag.pubads()); googletag.pubads().enableSingleRequest(); googletag.pubads().collapseEmptyDivs(); googletag.enableServices(); });
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0'); });
Out of those three names, only the Ativa and Axeda names remain registered, as Perodua has since abandoned the Atriva name.
In fact, a recent post from Funtasticko revealed that Ativa is Portuguese for "Active", possibly hinting at what could very well be the D55L's model name.
Apart from these names, other model names that could potentially be fitted to the Perodua D55L include Kembara and Nautica – both of which have be applied to earlier Perodua models. For what it’s worth, both the Kembara and Nautica names are still registered under Perodua.
To recap, the Perodua D55L is an upcoming B-segment SUV that is said to feature a number of Perodua-first features. Chief among which is the new DNGA platform, which is a derivative of Toyota’s TNGA platform, albeit for budget compact cars. In addition to that, the D55L is also said to receive a new turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, just like the Toyota Raize/Daihatsu Rocky donor cars. In the Raize/Rocky, the turbocharged engine is good for 98 PS and 140 Nm.
Potential model names aside, sales training for the Perodua D55L is currently underway, hinting that the model will be launched sooner than later. However, the date is subject to change depending on how bad the Covid-19 situation is. Currently, it’s still rather fluid as the MCO has just been extended until February 18.
Any further delays will result in is less time left for Perodua to ride on the sales tax (SST) exemption period for locally-assembled cars, which will end by 30-June 2021.
