With less than two months left before the year ends, Perodua is revising its sales target for 2023 to 325,000 units, up from the earlier announced figure of 314,000 units. Production targets have been increased in tandem, from 330,000 units to 338,000 units.

In case you are wondering on the gap between production target and sales', Perodua’s production target is always slightly higher than its sales targets, to accommodate the need to keep a small number of buffer stock.

Perodua says the upward revision is due to improved supply of auto parts, as well as strong demand for its wallet-friendly compact cars.

“This month saw our highest ever production and sales performances of 35,111 units made and 33,836 units registered in a single month,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

For reference, Perodua produced 22,974 units in October 2022 and registered 24,849 units in the same month of 2022.

He said the increase in production was achieved with available resources within the current automotive ecosystem, hinting at its growth potential for both demand and supply side of the industry.

Dato’ Sri Zainal said: “While some issues such as the long-term availability of semiconductor chips still persist, we are able to secure enough so that our fourth quarter performance would be the best in our history.”

Year-to-date October sales for Perodua stand at 267,063 units, up 22 percent from the same 10-month period in 2022.

“If this momentum continues, then the automotive industry might be able to sustain such growth in 2024, which would further help boost the consumer sentiment despite the economic uncertainties next year,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.

“For now, we are focusing on maximising our potential in both production and sales so that our customers will receive their Perodua vehicles faster,” he added.
