The stock engine makes around 220HP at the wheels, which is really the number you are looking for. Everything between the crank and the wheels robs power. You can probably get around 350 to 400 wheel HP out of the 3.5 liter engine that’s in there without going the turbo or blower route. That’s pretty good out of that engine, but it takes a lot to get there and a whole lot more to make it reliable enough to actually run for any length of time. The result is going to be an engine that probably won’t run well under 2000 RPM and will only be suitable for the racetrack. It will be too difficult to drive under street conditions. Once you have the HP, then you have to beef everything else up, from engine mounts to cooling systems, to transmission and driveline components, to suspension and possibly even frame modifications. It’s getting really expensive here. Here is an article on what one person did… ,Nissan 350Z VQ35DE Engine Build - Modified Magazine
Hello, Well they are both seventh generation Maxima's. They also both carry the vq35de engine and cvt transmission. Although the 6th generations also carried the vq35de, but over the years improvement would have been made, one or two things included. So in answering your question, I believe you should be able to put in that 2013 engine in your 2009. However, you must determine that the 2013 doesn't have more sensors and actuators more than that of the 2009. Mounting also has to be strictly the same. If it happens that you have some sensors and actuators present in the 2013 that are not in the 2009, you would need some coding on the ECU. Otherwise I don't see why it should not work. I wish you all the best in the project. Keep me updated, if you can.
Anything can be done with the right amount of money. I used to own some cars with the VQ and let me tell you that they are garbage. They don’t sound good at all and it’s extremely underpowered compared to other v6s. If your current 4 cylinder is transverse( meaning it sits sideways in the engine bay you may be able to fit it but you’d need the fwd transmission or an awd transmission. If you plan on fitting it longitude you would be able to use the rwd transmissions in the 350z. The issue will be in wiring the whole thing together and having it communicate with itself. If you want more power there are better engine options than the VQ. I’m looking at some of the pictures of your car and it could accommodate a small block V8 pretty nicely with some fabrication and you would have a more reliable engine and more power from it. But yes it is possible but there are cheaper engines that give you better results
Yes, Nissan 3,5 liter 6 cylinder is a Daimer Mercedes Engine that requires premium. The Maxima is one of the best kept secret in the industry. Maxima, with editors specifically noting the 3.5-liter VQ-series V6's 61 percent new parts, reduced friction and weight, and new intake manifold (versus the previous generation design) among key factors in the Maxima's inclusion on this year's list. The engine applies lessons learned from the legendary GT-R, such as sodium-filled valves, to meet the needs of the higher compression ratio and combustion temperatures."When the 2016 Maxima hit dealerships our team believed this redesigned 3.5-liter V6 engine would be an important piece of the puzzle,"said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. "To be included in Wards 10 Best Engines list is a tribute to the outstanding design, performance and value of our new-generation Nissan Maxima flagship sedan. The problem with regular gas is caused by the catalytic converters. They are very sensitive to the quality of gasoline and may get out of order quickly. Once it happens, ceramic powder gets into the bottom catalytic converters. And then it gets into the engine and grinds off cylinder walls. As the result, compression diminishes and oil and fuel consumption increases.
