The all-new 2022 Toyota Avanza's W100 model code revealed, could shed light on next-gen Alza

Despite the ongoing pandemic, development work for the next-generation 2022 Toyota Avanza is well underway, ahead of its Indonesian debut in early November.

Said model, according to Indra Fathan’s Instagram post, is currently in pre-production phase. Between three to five pre-production prototypes have been assembled in Indonesia and sent to Japan for evaluation purposes.

D34T and D26A could be referring to the same model

This in turn has dropped more crumbs of information, as a shipping website revealed codes such as W100 and W101. The difference between the two are unknown at this point of time, but a forum post on an Indonesian website revealed a fair bit of information.

Curiously, these screenshots also seem to indicate that D34T and D26A are both referring to the same model.

Without getting into the nitty gritty details, the forum post seemingly confirms the earlier rumours: the next-generation Toyota Avanza will be fitted with a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre 2NR-VE petrol engine mated either to a CVT-type automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. These codes also revealed that a left-hand drive version of the next-gen Avanza is in the works as well.

But that’s not all, as said shipping company’s website also revealed the D26A codename – pretty close to the purported next-generation Perodua Alza’s codename, which is D27A. Both models will be developed on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) – the same platform that is the basis for the Perodua Ativa.

Apart from these details, we also know that the next-generation Toyota Avanza will be much safer than the current-generation Honda BR-V and Mitsubishi Xpander, as it will offer six airbags and autonomous emergency braking (AEB).

Ativa's ASA cameras

Considering that the all-new Avanza and next-gen Perodua Alza will be twins, that would also mean that the next-gen Alza's safety equipment will likely mirror the Perodua Ativa, owing to their similar price positioning. Thus, there is a strong possibility for the next-generation Malaysian-market Alza and its twin, the all-new Avanza to get Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA).
