2023 Toyota Innova Zenix teases its front grille, FWD TNGA platform and hybrid rumoured

It’s gonna be a busy week for renderers especially in Indonesia as Toyota Indonesia dropped the first teaser of the highly anticipated all-new third-generation 2023 Toyota Innova on its website and social media platforms.

Described as “the next prestigious crossover”, the post shows the next-gen Innova’s front end, especially the grille and headlights. We tried to bump up the brightness with a little bit of Photoshop magic and as seen in the cover photo, it is a modern-looking crossover.

The trapezoidal front grille is reminiscent of Toyota’s other crossovers and SUVs like the Corolla Cross and the Highlander. Speaking of the Corolla Cross, the next-gen Innova is reportedly built on the same TNGA-C platform as the popular crossover.

Just like its younger brother, the Avanza/Veloz, the all-new Innova could say goodbye to the current rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout for the more conventional front-wheel-drive (FWD). That would free up some room for space and practicality as Indonesia’s national car goes global.

Besides a new platform, the third-gen Innova could also feature two 2.0-litre Dynamic Force engines – a petrol unit and a hybrid unit. Both engines are said to only be paired to a CVT automatic which replaces the 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions of the outgoing Innova.

Further (rumoured) enhancements of the all-new Innova include an electric parking brake (EPB) as standard while a panoramic sunroof, a floating-style 10-inch infotainment head unit and the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) ADAS suite are among the features available on higher variants.

This sees the Toyota Innova receiving a complete overhaul compared to its predecessor and with that also comes a rumour that it might get a new name too. Toyota has trademarked the Innova Zenix name in a few countries in Southeast Asia including Malaysia while the Innova Hycross was trademarked in India.

All these enhancements would elevate the Innova into the upmarket segment even in price. Indonesian media have reported that the all-new Innova would be priced between IDR 410 million to IDR 620 million (~RM 125k-189k) with the highest variant being pricier than the Toyota Voxy.
