The restyled Maxima enjoyed an even greater popularity than the previous generation. This was mostly due to the introduction of more customization options, a larger interior space and a new engine. The new 3.0 L V6 petrol unit had an increased power of 190 hp and could develop 278 Nm of maximum torque. Among other changes made, independent rear suspension was replaced with a torsion bar while some trims were available with a 6-speaker sound system. As for passive safety systems equipped, the Maxima came with an option of front door-side airbags.
