nissan serena tuning Q&A Review

Why do automatics rev so low? I thought between 2-3 thousand was a good range to keep them at, which is what I do with my manual but I noticed my friends averages around 1500. That’s barely above idle for me?

Automatics can rev up just like any manual with the same engine. The reason for the lower rpm is fuel economy. Automatics follows a specific engine performance map to up shift and down shift. In normal mode or D, the map is tune to give the best fuel burn which usually happens in the lower rpm range and up shift as soon as possible, and kept the rpm as low as possible. When you floor the gas or specifically select it on the drive selector, there usually is another power mode map the engine and transmission follows to gives the best performance, which most people refer to as sport mode. 2–3k rpm is a but high, most cars no matter be it a manual or automatic, at 60mph or 100kmh should sit around 2k at top gear, at least this apply most cars I had driven which includes my q7 (German suv) My aunts SL500, SL350 and E280 ( German coupe and sedan) My old Nissan Serena (Japanese MPV) My uncles Tuscon (Korean SUV) Numerous Japanese rental cars on trips Ps. The only car that the 2k@ top gear@60/100 rule does not apply is those K-Car with engines less than a liter of displacement, those car you really need to push it to get it up to highway speed and their engine buzz like a banshee…

How did you get your first car?

I drove my parents' cars since I was 12, and they ranged from 1990 Mercedes-Benz S-class to 1997 Hyundai Sonata to 2004 Renault Megane to 2004 GMC Envoy XUV to 1997 Nissan Serena to 1993 VW Golf to 2002 Lincoln Navigator. I KNOW this is one of the most diversed list of cars a guy can drive in a short period of time. However, my favorite car was my first car that was actually mine which I bought at the age of 21. A 1995 Alfa Romeo 155 2.0 Twin Spark with red exterior and a spoiler on the trunk, and Quadroflogio looks. I was looking for cheap used cars on ads on a newspaper, and I fell for the alfa and decided to buy it. The funny thing is that I never even heard of the 155 before this coincidence and I had to google more about it. I mainly bought it because it was cheap, unique, and sporty. I have to admit I had some reliability problems and spare parts in my country were as rare as uranium, but I managed to drive it for 3 enjoyable years. The manual gear is one of the best shifters ever produced, and the sound of that twin spark engine is similar to a tuned V6 engine. Great memories, great car!
