Honestly I think my Eagle Talon and Volvo S60R are the best cars I’ve ever owned in my life. I smile and laugh every time I drive them and they bring me a lot of joy. They’re the only 2 cars I’d go back and buy again an infinite number of times and still regret nothing. https://t.co/Vy6qc5r7pN
One of my favorite color combinations is a punchy blue with an orange/red interior, exactly like this 2007 Volvo S60R with the right number of pedals 🤤🤤🤤 Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Fuck yes https://t.co/K8StygFItA https://t.co/To8K1kBcAm

The ,Volvo, ,S60R,. Yes. It's a Volvo. And it has 300HP. With just a tune ($500–800) it can crank 340HP+ These were produced between 2004–2007 to compete with the BMW-M / Mercedes AMG line of cars. However, it did not perform as well as the rival cars and did not match the target market. Prospective Volvo owners care much more about safety than speed. Nevertheless it is a blast to drive. And you can get a used one for under $10K. Just make sure the angle gear has been replaced recently or else you will have to shell out another $2–3K to repair it. Also check the timing belt! That will run you another $600–800 if it needs replacing. Top Gear made a video on the car years ago: Volvo S60R car review - Top Gear - BBC I own a Sonic Blue S60R and I love it. Great sleeper car!
There was a time I would have suggested it was probably even better than Mobil 1, although the latest M1 formulations seem pretty good. Kirkland is made by Warren distribution. They are the largest (to my knowledge) blender of private label oils. As a bit of an oil nerd, I have seen enough to suggest that Warren blends perform excellently; pretty much equally with the big name brands. Assuming you change it appropriately, I doubt you’d see a meaningful difference between Kirkland, Valvoline, M1, or Pennzoil. Any of them will permit the engine to outlast the car. If you’re beating the thing to death, running aftermarket performance parts, racing, towing 20,000 pounds etc, there might be some advantages to running an ultra-premium oil like Amsoil, M1 Annual Protection, Pennzoil Ultra. However, that difference still might be more related to the oil change interval allowable than actual wear. An example: I had a Volvo S60R which was 300 HP from 2.5 liters. I drove it pretty hard and also used it to tow some pretty sizable trailers. As such, I ran oil analysis to determine when to change my oil. What I found was that I could run Amsoil Signature about 10,000 miles while regular synthetics started to crap out around 6000–7000 miles. Regardless, I sold that car at 160,000 miles and it still had excellent compression in all 5 cylinders, burned about 1.5 quarts over a 10,000 mile oil change interval, and had excellent crank case pressure. By all accounts, it was still running as new. All of the oils had done their job, some just lasted longer.
I would buy a Volvo S60R, if you can find one with under 100k miles. Go for the manual transmission if possible, and try to stick to an ’06 or ’07 if you're going for an automatic transmission. There is no torque limiter in 1st and 2nd on the ’06 and later models for the automatic transmission. See my answer here: ,Michael Pillemer's answer to What cars are powerful but inexpensive?
The ,Volvo S60R,. Under $10K used. Produced from 2004–2007. This is my Sonic Blue R: Looks just like your regular ol’ boring S60, but with some tasteful sporty design cues. It’s classy, safe, and fast. Ever seen a Volvo pulled over for speeding? Ever seen a Volvo pulled over for ,anything, illegal? Me neither. Discreet to the max. 300HP base with 0–60 in 5.5s with a manual transmission and 6s with the geartronic automatic. With a tune ($500–$800) you can chop off a few tenths of a second. Adds ~40HP. So you had the car tuned but still want it to go faster (mid/high fours 0–60)? Add these discreet upgrades for an additional ~25HP+: -The “R Kelly” stealth cold air intake. Costs around $100 from IPD: ,The Volvo Parts, Accessories and Performance Specialists Since 1963, You can install the intake yourself in your driveway in a couple of hours. Connects to the stock airbox and pulls air from behind the front left vented fog light grill. You can add one to the front right fog light too if you so desire. Plenty of detailed installation guides on the SwedeSpeed forums. -A larger front mounted intercooler. Cost is around $500–600 before install. The S60R has two intercoolers but replacing the front IC with a larger one makes a world of difference. -An upgraded downpipe and exhaust. Cost for both is around $1000–1500 depending on the downpipe you choose. OBX is a popular inexpensive downpipe option. IPD/VIVA/Eurosport Tuning are the higher-end options. There are well-produced comparisons of the various exhaust tones on YouTube. The most discreet exhausts are from IPD USA, EuroSport tuning or Elevate. Expect slightly louder than stock with the IPD exhaust. You can install the exhaust yourself using ramps and a rachet. Once you have completed the above performance part upgrades, purchase a tune upgrade ($100–200). This will maximize your HP and torque. Here are popular tuning companies that can mail you a tune and modify your tune file remotely: IPD, Autotech/Elevate, RICA, Hilton, and Shark. All of them will build you an excellent tune. Enjoy!
I probably sound like a broken record on Quora by now, but I recommend the Volvo S60R: This is my car right before I bought it at the dealer. Used for under $10K with 88K on the odometer. See my other answer about the specs, stats, and recommended tuning of the car: Michael Pillemer's answer to What is the best modern "sleeper" car from around 2007 which is newer, fast, discreet, and mildly priced?

I drive 15K miles a year and end up running out of gas 3-4x a year due to some weird desire to push it to the limit combined with absentmindedness (I keep a gas can in my trunk). My 2004 Volvo S60R can make it another 15 - 20 miles after the digital fuel gage goes to "---".
