2021 Toyota Innova facelift now in Malaysia: price up RM 2-4k, adds 360-cam, BSM

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) kicks off 2021 by introducing the 2021 Toyota Innova facelift in Malaysia. Prices for the locally-assembled (CKD) 7-seater MPV now starts from RM 111,622, a slight increase from the previous price range of RM 110,034 (E), RM 117,364 (G) and RM 127,126 (X). The E variant is also available for taxi fleet, and that one starts at RM 97,978.00.

Mildly refreshed exterior

As expected, the exterior largely mirrors the Indo- and Thai-spec cars, both of which made their debut in 2020. It’s a very subtle nip-and-tuck for the Innova this time around, focusing mainly at the grille area – it’s trapezoidal now, looking very much like the 2020 Toyota Hilux’s.

Other small visual updates include new claddings and redesigned side skirts, alongside chrome side mirror covers and a new roof spoiler (only for the 2.0X variant, however). Along with that, the 17-inch wheels on the 2.0X variants are now in Dark Mica Metallic (instead of black) while the 2.0G gets a new design.

There are six exterior colour choices – Medium Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Phantom Brown, Silver Metallic, Super White II, and Bronze Mica Metallic (new). There is an additional choice of Crimson Spark Red Metallic, exclusively for the 2.0X variant.

Subtle interior updates

Inside, the Innova's 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support has been upgraded to display the 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) in 3D which are now standard fitments on both variants. 

Meanwhile, Toyota has added more charging ports to the Innova - the front 2 USB ports are now situated at the dashboard, and there's an additional USB port has been provided for those sitting in the third row of seats. All ports support fast charging but if those are not enough - a wireless charger is available as an option. 

Powertrain

Typical of mid-life updates, the powertrain remains the same: the 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated four-cylinder mill (1TR-FE) pushing 139 PS/183 Nm, sending power to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Safety updates 

Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) are now standard fitments on both variants. 

The Innova retains 7 airbags, stability control (ESC), anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution (ABS, EBD), brake assist (BA), traction control (TC), hill-start assist (HAC) and emergency stop signal (ESS). Fittingly, the Innova received 5-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP.

Variants and prices of the 2021 Toyota Innova

Two variants are offered and across the range, there’s a price bump between RM 2,551 for the X, and RM 4,119 for the G variant. Here's the new price list:
