2021 Toyota Fortuner facelift open for booking: 204 PS/500Nm, ADAS, from RM 173k

There will be a choice between 2 variants, the 2.7 SRZ priced at RM 174,244 and 2.8 VRZ priced at RM 203,183, both prices are exempted from SST. Previously, there were 3 variants avaiable - 2.4, 2.4 VRZ and 2.7 SRZ, priced from RM 162,178 to RM 184,431.

Powertrain

The Fortuner 2.8 VRZ 4x4 A/T is a new variant which replaces the Fortuner 2.4 VRZ that was offered previously, priced at RM 184,431. Which means there's about RM 19k difference from the 2.4 VRZ before and the 2.8 VRZ.

As seen in the Toyota Hilux Rogue, the 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine produces 204 PS at 3,400 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to 2,800 rpm, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with 4x4 capability. The 2.7-litre petrol engine is carried over from before.

The drivetrain of the Fortuner 2.8 VRZ and 2.7 SRZ has an Auto Limited Slip Differential (LSD). This device is useful in difficult, low-traction conditions and uses the traction control system to control braking when one of the rear wheels start to spin.

Exterior

It gets quad LED headlamps and a mesh-type front grille. The foglamp, turn signal and position lamps have also been restyled while the front and rear bumpers have a new design. The skid plate below the front end is also new.

The roof, A-pillars, wing mirrors and roof-mounted rear spoiler are finished in black. Additionally, the corner mouldings are specially shaped for aerodynamic benefits.

As for the Fortuner 2.7 SRZ, it gets Bi-Beam LED headlamps with revised grille and bumper. Both variants are fitted with new 18-inch alloys.

Interior

Moving inside, there’s a new instrument panel featuring a revised Multi Information Display (MID) opening animation. There’s also ambient lighting and electrochromic rearview mirror. Plus, the tailgate has a hands-free kick function.

Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems

As for safety, the 2.8 VRZ gets partial Toyota Safety Sense that bundles:

  • Pre-collision System (AEB)
  • Lane Departure Alert
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Yaw Assist Function

The Fortuner range comes with a 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty, subject to conditions stated in the Owner’s Handbook. This will be welcome by owners who clock high mileage each year as they can enjoy peace of mind for the full 5-year period.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience.
