In case you missed it, the country will go into a total lockdown for 2 weeks starting June 1. As the country settle in for what media are dubbing Full Movement Control Order (FMCO), here’s the list of what is allowed and not allowed to operate in the automotive and transport sector for the coming weeks.

Allowed
The 10 km travel radius is back in force during the total lockdown, Malaysians are encouraged to only leave their homes to purchase essential items. Two people from each household are allowed to leave their homes at a time.
Cars are limited to only 2 passengers regardless of the vehicle’s capacity. The same applies to e-hailing services and taxis, note that the number includes the driver as well.

Only in cases of an emergency and medical check-ups will the passenger capacity in the vehicle be extended to 3 people.
If there is a death in the family outside of the 10 km travel radius, the individual will have to get a travel permit from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) before travelling.

For those who have registered for their vaccination programme, all they need to do is show to the officers at roadblocks their proof of appointment.
Public transport such as buses and trains will be reduced to 50% working capacity. This applies to shuttle vehicles for companies as well.

Like before, petrol stations are allowed to operate based on the location. All stations are allowed to operate from 6 am to 8 pm while stations located along the highway are allowed to continue operating for 24 hours.
Car repair shops, spare part sstockists, and service centres are allowed to operate this during MCO 3.0 from 8 am to 8 pm.

NOT allowed
Like before, crossing state and district borders are strictly prohibited. The rule now applies to long-distance couples as well. Previously, the government allowed long-distance couples leeway to travel across states but this no longer applies during the total lockdown period.
Only parents who are working in essential services sectors that have been approved by the government are allowed to send their children to daycare centres. However, the National Security Council reminds parents to adhere to the vehicle capacity limit during the total lockdown.

Park and dine services are no longer allowed as it is now considered a dine-in service.
Other than that, services such as car showrooms, car wash, car accessory shops, as well as driving school institutions are required to close for the duration of the total lockdown.

Conclusion
These are the general standard operating procedures (SOP) that we will have to observe for the total lockdown from June 1 to June 14.
Take note that MITI letters issued before this lockdown will no longer be valid, so be sure that your employers update your travel permits before you head out.
