The owner of this Toyota Hilux, Quentin Boylan says that he gets a lot of 'funny looks' because of the custom number plates on his pick-up truck, which reads 'AMG HLUX GP'.
Part of the laughs might come from those who think he's a poser, except Boylan is anything but one - his Toyota is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 plucked from a Mercedes-AMG C63.
Boylan says his one-off custom build was partly inspired by the (lack of) a proper, big-engined Mercedes-Benz X-Class. If you recall, the short-lived pick-up truck - itself a rebadged Nissan Navara - was only offered with four-cylinder or V6 mills in its three-year lifespan.

Besides the engine, this lowered Hilux also has AMG brakes hiding behind 20-inch, custom-made rims.
Meanwhile, the red-and-black interior is trimmed in Alcantara and leather, in-line with the AMG theme.
For all its Zuffenhausen aspirations, this South African bakkie has some Malaysian touches as well. This Hilux wears the facelifted look, of which the parts were brought in from our country. The parts were imported because the facelifted model wasn't available in South Africa when Boylan built this.

All in all, this is a very interesting, well-built creation, and the full story of it can be seen in the video below. Oh, don't forget to turn up the volume.
