Vehicle sales took a hit in January 2022 with a drop of 44 percent but don’t you worry 01

Traditionally, vehicle sales in the beginning of the year does take some time to build up steam so it isn’t all that worrying that vehicle sales for January 2022 of 40,481 units dropped a massive 44 percent over the December 2021 numbers that clocked in at 72,765 units.

Although that’s quite a drop, a better comparison would be against the corresponding January 2021 figures. When lines side-by-side with those, everyone can breathe a sigh of relief; especially the Malaysia Automotive Association (MAA) as they’re hoping the total industry volume (TIV) for 2022 will exceed 600,000 units after falling short last year.

The surge in December 2021 would’ve been fuelled by the proposed ending of the sales tax exemption for passenger vehicles although that’s since been extended until 30 June 2022.

Production figures chart the same trend against the corresponding numbers in January 2021. In total, factories in the country rolled out 42,961 units for January 2022. Compared to the 39,666 units from January 2021, it’s a promising trend.

In conclusion, the MAA’s target of exceeding 600,000 units for 2022 remains on track and with the flurry of new launches recently, we should be seeing monthly sales figures begin to climb as the year progresses.

“Better late than never.” Some despise it, others begrudgingly agree with it but he swears by it… much to the chagrin of everyone around him. That unfortunately stems from all of his project cars not running most of the time, which in turn is testament to his questionable decision-making skills in life. A culmination of many wrongs fortunately making a right; much like his project cars on the rare occasions they run, he’s still trying to figure out if another project car is the way to go.
