MRT 3 Circle Line gets green light; Project to take 10 years to build

The Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT3) Circle Line Project has received the green light to resume work from the government. The green light was given by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob last week (4-March-2022).
Spanning a total of 50 km with 30 stations planned, the Circle Line will link the MRT 1 and MRT 2 lines to create one giant loop around the greater Klang Valley. The Circle Line will also have some 10 interchange stations with existing rail lines.
It will connect the areas that are currently still bereaved of public train access including Bukit Kiara, Sri Hartamas, Mont Kiara, Jalan Duta, Jalan Kuching, Ampang Point, Desa Pandan, Pandan Indah, Kuchai Lama, Old Klang Road, Pantai Dalam just to name a few.
Previously, the construction of the Circle Line project was placed on hold by the Pakatan Harapan-led federal administration.
It is understood that 40 percent of the line will be underground and the project will be built in five phases over 10 years. Each completed phase will be able to operate independently once it is completed as the line will link other stations from other lines together.
In a statement, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) believes that the MRT 3 Circle Line Project is a much-needed piece of connectivity in the Klang Valley Integrated Transit Network under the National Transport Policy.

It further added that the line is a critical component of the future multi-modal mobility under the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040.
"As a project developer and asset owner of MRT3, MRT Corp will continue to give priority to local contractors, including Bumiputera players, to create business and job opportunities for the Malaysian Family,” said its chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim.
"This will be achieved through greater emphasis on local rail system technologies, Industrialised Building System (IBS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) solutions and upgrading of expertise and skillsets through various programmes such as technical and vocational education and training (TVET)."
