Transport minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong announced during a road safety campaign in conjunction with Ops Bersepadu that micro-mobility vehicle will be governed by a bylaw, which will include the requirement that users and providers be licenced, reports The Star.

Amendments to the Road Transport Act to regulate such vehicles was done in 2020, and the bylaw will further explain the required details. E-bicycles, mopeds, e-scooters, one- or two-seater electric cars, and even the Segway, among others, are considered micro-mobility vehicles.

“There are a lot of such vehicles. An e-bicycle is not your typical bicycle because it can be as fast as a motorcycle.
We are looking at each micro-mobility vehicles to ensure that all are defined and governed by the by-law,” said Wee.

Vehicles with a top speed of 50 kilometres per hour that are powered by electricity, an internal combustion engine, or human power, or a combination of the two are included in the micro-mobility bill.
