JPJ takes action to ease congestion; Enforces heavy vehicle ban on roads during peak hours

Due to the heavy traffic in the Endemic Era, the authorities have been forced to take action to help reduce congestion. The Road Transport Department (JPJ) released a statement reminding road users that vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tons are not allowed on the road at peak hours, especially in the Klang Valley.

To be specific, the times when these heavy vehicles are not allowed on roads are as follows:

• 6.30 am to 9.30 am
• 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm

JPJ director-general, Datuk Zailani Hashim, added that the ban on heavy vehicles applies to 10 routes in the morning while only 8 routes are affected in the evening.

The 10 routes affected in the morning are:

• All roads in the Kuala Lumpur city centre
• Jalan Kuching
• Jalan Genting Klang
• Jalan Cheras,
• Plus Highway
• Jalan Tun Razak
• Jalan Istana
• Jalan Segambut
• Jalan Sentul

Heavy vehicles are not allowed on the following roads in the evening:

• Jalan Kepong
• Jalan Ipoh
• Jalan Gombak
• Jalan Genting Klang
• Jalan Cheras
• Jalan Sungai Besi
• Jalan Kelang Lama

Zailani asks for the understanding and compliance of company operators and drivers of these heavy vehicles. He also reminded these operators that heavy vehicles are banned from using roads at least 5 km from the city centre.

Those who are found flaunting the law can be punished according to sub-section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333). They will be fined not more than RM 300 or they can be hauled to court and slapped with a fine of at least RM 300 and not more than RM 2,000.
