Can you spot the Perodua parts in this D92A 2023 Toyota Vios?

  • D92A 2023 Toyota Vios teased
  • New B-segment sedan to launch on 9-August
  • Lots of shared parts with Ativa and Alza, can you spot them?

Recently, Toyota dropped teasers of the D92A 2023 Toyota Vios, a new generation B-segment sedan that will take over the mantle from the current-generation model, which has been around since 2013. It will be sold in Thailand as the Yaris Ativ with a smaller 1.2-litre engine, different from our Vios which gets a larger 1.5-litre engine.

In the short 15-second video that Toyota posted, it gives us a quick glimpse at the new Vios’ cabin, as well as bits of the exterior.

From the teaser, the Vios looks pretty much like a baby Toyota Camry, thanks to its large gaping front grille and sharp LED headlights. Not much can be seen from the rear-end, but a shot of the D92A Vios’ tail light seems to hint at a full-LED setup, similar to the recently-launched D27A Perodua Alza.

Inside, the D92A Vios, at least for the Thai-spec one, gets a classy-looking red-on-black interior finishing. The classy theme continues with the quilted leather seats.

Look closely and you’ll notice that the steering wheel and gear shifter are similar to the ones found on the Perodua Ativa, hinting at the D92A Vios’ link to Daihatsu.

Let us explain.

Recent Perodua models like the Ativa and Alza were co-developed by Perodua and their partner, Daihatsu, as the latter formed and internal company with Toyota. The internal company is called Emerging Market Compact Car Company (EMCC) and they’re tasked for developing compact cars for the wider Toyota Motor group.
