B40 group affordable driving licence programme now introduced to more areas in Malaysia

The Ministry of Transport has extended the Bantuan Lesen Memandu Keluarga Malaysia (BLKM) programme to cover more areas. The programme was started back in March to make it more affordable for low-income group (B40) to attain a driver’s licence.

Previously when the programme was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, it only applied to residents in Bera, Pahang.

Now, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has extended the programme to include Ayer Hitam, Johor.

The programme, under the Road Transport Department (JPJ), was introduced to help reduce the burden of the B40 category and to allow the lower income group to enter the workforce.

Under the programme, those who wish to obtain a B2 motorcycle licence will only need to pay RM 250, which includes the learning course. The amount is far more affordable than the usual fee of around RM 750.

The ministry hopes that the programme can allow more people in the B40 group, especially youths, to obtain driving licences and allow them to enter the gig economy to generate income.
