Just like Geely and Great Wall Motor (GWM), Chery also has multiple sub-brands under its umbrella and one of them, Exeed, produces some of the coolest-looking SUVs. Slated for an official launch later this month, the Exeed Yaoguang is Cheryâs representative in the slightly more upmarket class.
The Yaoguang is based on the Exceed Atlantix concept car that Chery previously previewed back in July 2022. The Atlantix received a lot of attention during its debut, at the time Chery already hinted that the car will go into mass production.
However, the Yaoguang does not look entirely like the concept car it was based on. Instead of the futuristic bumper with an integrated light pattern, the Yaoguang gets a diamond-shaped borderless grille instead.
Strong shoulder lines stretch from the narrow headlights all the way to the C-pillar. Side trims add a touch of sportiness to the SUV while flushed door handles gives it the premium look Chery is going for.
The wheels are worth noting as they are shaped like a five-spoke propeller and finished in black rather than chrome. The Yaoguangâs side profile gives us strong Range Rover Evoque vibes donât you think?
The SUV has a fastback shape so the rear end looks slightly like the car has a hunchback. Like most new cars, the Yaoguang also features a lightbar that runs across the tailgate and connects the taillights. The taillights are also smoked for a slightly mysterious look.
Measuring 4,781 x 1,920 x 1,671 mm in length, width, and height with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm, the Yaoguang is a rather large SUV. In context, the Yaoguang is at least 158 mm longer and 65 mm wider than the local Honda CR-V.

Inside, Chery made sure the Yaoguang lives up to the class Chery positioned the car in. The dual-tone interior gets a chrome trim running across the dashboard while the two-spoke steering wheel adds a touch of sportiness.
To keep things clean and simple, the Yaoguangâs interior only has three knobs to control the A/C. Looks like passengers in the SUV will not be lacking in storage space based on the preview photos.
The driver benefits from a fully digital instrument cluster while the connecting infotainment screen measures 24.6 inches. Unlike other car infotainment systems, the Yaoguangâs infotainment is an android system known as Lion 6.0 OS that runs on a Snapdragon 8155 processor.
Other than that, the driver also gets a head-up display (HUD). Not much information has been released on the HUD yet however, we do know that the Yaoguangâs interior comes fitted with 14 speakers, a wireless phone charger, and Level 2 autonomous driving.
As mentioned, the Yaoguang will be powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). It will share the same 2.0TGDI engine as its sibling, the Exceed Lanyue. The engine produces 261 PS and 400 Nm and is mated to an 8-speed conventional automatic transmission.
The Yaoguang was originally slated to launch in September, however, things didnât work out and Chery is now looking at a November launch. Word is that a PHEV is also in the works, but it will only be introduced after the SUVâs official launch.
There isnât a time in memory that doesnât involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle womenâs magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
