While Thailand’s automotive market is still mostly dominated by Japanese brands, the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment is controlled by the Chinese. Thanks to incentives, the Kingdom’s BEV market saw a 684% growth in sales last year and is expected to continue to rise in 2024.
In late 2023, Honda Thailand announced itself as the first mainstream Japanese carmaker to begin local production (CKD) of a BEV model. The Honda e:N1, the name given to the Thai market version of the European-spec e:Ny1 (Anyone), is essentially a fully electric version of the Honda HR-V.

At the ongoing 2024 Bangkok Motor Show, the Honda e:N1 made its public debut in the Kingdom and more details for the fully-electric HR-V twin have been unrevealed.
The e:N1 is produced at a dedicated facility at Honda’s Prachinburi plant. Despite the HR-V resemblance, Honda claims the e:N1 sits on the newly-developed e:N Architecture F platform designed to accommodate front-motor-driven BEVs.

The HR-V’s electric twin is powered by a 204 PS/310 Nm electric motor mounted on the front axle. It is juiced up by a 68.8-kWh lithium-ion battery with a claimed driving range of 500 km under NEDC rating.
Standard features on the Thai-spec e:N1 include black leather seats, a wireless charger, heated side mirrors, and a 15.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Honda Sensing is also offered as standard which comprises:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
- Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW)
- Auto High-Beam (AHB)
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC with LSF)
Only one variant of the e:N1 is offered in Thailand and in one sole colour too – Premium Sunlight White Pearl. According to Honda Thailand’s website, the e:N1 is not available for sale but only for leasing via a few car rental companies like Hertz, Budget, and Orix, among others.
Perhaps the decision for the e:N1 to be lease-only in Thailand is to gauge how Thais would perceive Japanese BEVs. Thais have widely accepted Chinese carmakers and with them getting a head start in the country’s BEV market, is it too late for the Japanese?
