This "HR-V" is electric! 2023 Honda e:Ny1 launched in Europe as H brand's EV line-up expands

Honda’s second and latest fully-electric (EV) offering for Europe looks familiar. Compared to the Honda e, the 2023 Honda e:Ny1 (Anyone) is a conventional crossover SUV that resembles the Honda HR-V. Perhaps the H brand is playing safe in attracting buyers?

This

Still, it might be a bit of a disservice to call the e:Ny1 as just an electric HR-V because it’s built on a completely brand-new platform. The e:N Architecture F high-performance front-motor driven platform underpins this HR-V-looking electric crossover and will be used in B-segment EVs globally.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0'); });

The e:Ny1 has a cleverly-packaged 3-in-1 motor that houses the power drive unit, electric motor and transmission that weighs only 77.4 kg over the front axle. The electric motor produces 203 PS and 310 Nm which is juiced up by a 68.8-kWh lithium-ion battery.

Under WLTP ratings, the e:Ny1 has a range of 412 km while DC fast charging allows it to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 45 minutes. Meanwhile, under standard AC chargers, 10-80% of total charging capacity can be achieved in 6 hours.

The electric SUV also introduces a new brand identity for Honda’s EV range. The chrome H badge is now replaced with one in white while a new typeface for the brand name is placed in the rear.

Dimensions-wise, the e:Ny1 is slightly similar to the HR-V despite sitting on a bespoke platform. Yet, you can tell which is which as the e:Ny1’s lack of a front grille is quite the obvious tell.

Dimensions comparison
Model Honda HR-V Honda e:Ny1
Length (mm) 4,385 4,387
Width (mm) 1,790
Height (mm) 1,590 1,584
Wheelbase (mm) 2,610 2,607

Inside, the HR… I mean e:Ny1 offers two screens, a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a large portrait-oriented 15.1-inch touchscreen that acts as the command centre for the infotainment, to observe the EV’s state-of-charge, and to (sigh) control the A/C settings.

Okay maybe I’m overexaggerating with the last part but at least the lower “A/C zone” display remains on permanent display. Honda calls the upper 2 segments of the screen the “Connect zone” and the “Driver Assist zone”.

Other than the large central screen and the gear selector button, the interior of the e:Ny1 appears to carry over that of the HR-V down to the Air Diffusion System function.

In terms of safety, the Honda Sensing ADAS suite is offered as standard on all variants of the e:Ny1 which encompasses:

  • Road Departure Mitigation System
  • Lane Keeping Assist System
  • Traffic Jam Assist
  • Traffic Sign Recognition System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Driver Attention Monitor

The e:Ny1 made its global debut in China as the e:NS1 and e:NP1. However, outside of China and Europe, there might be a chance the electric cousin to the HR-V could make it to Southeast Asia as it was spotted testing in Thailand.
