After being spotted on Thai roads numerous times, Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co. Ltd. announced that it has started its first production line for the Honda e:N1 electric SUV at the company’s Parchin Buri plant.

The fully electric (EV) twin of the Honda HR-V is the first EV from a major Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the Kingdom.

In Europe, the e:N1 is called the e:Ny1 which is pronounced ‘anyone’ while in China, it is called e:NS1 or e:NP1 depending on the joint venture partner.

At first glance, the e:N1 looks similar to the European e:Ny1 apart from the name. Official details on the e:N1 will be announced in the first quarter of 2024 (Q1 2024).

In Europe, the electric HR-V is powered by a front-mounted electric motor that makes 203 PS and 310 Nm. It is juiced up by a 68.8-kWh lithium-ion battery and has a range of 412 km (WLTP rating).

The e:Ny1 essentially replaces the cute but expensive Honda e which was announced to reach the end of production in Japan by January 2024.

Honda is already a leader in hybrid vehicles sales in the Kingdom but EVs are mainly dominated by Chinese brands like BYD. Sales of EVs have already skyrocketed in 2023 and accounted for more than 10% of total new vehicle sales in the Kingdom with nearly 60,000 units sold as of October. Will the e:N1 change the tide of EV sales in Thailand?
