Indonesia to get 4 more Toyota hybrid models, including 2024 Veloz hybrid

Following the launch of the Toyota Innova Zenix Hybrid in Indonesia, Toyota will be introducing more electrified (HEV) models in the Archipelago in the near future.

According to OtoDriver, sources close to the matter told the Indonesian publication that there are more hybrid models planned for Indonesia.

Indonesia's Toyota Veloz will be getting a hybrid powertrain in 2024

That being said, Toyota’s hybrid line-up in Indonesia won’t be expanded next year, but from 2024 instead.

“Everything will start with the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid which will be launched in January 2024. The model will be followed by the Veloz Hybrid in June 2024,” said the unnamed source.

ASEAN's Toyota Yaris Cross won't be related to this Yaris Cross. This is developed on the TNGA-B platform

The Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid that the unnamed source mentioned isn’t related to the TNGA-B Yaris Cross, but a DNGA-based model instead. Said TNGA-based Yaris Cross could be the successor model to the Toyota Rush and is said to debut in Indonesia by October 2023.

The Toyota Calya is an Indonesia-only model

Following the Yaris Cross Hybrid’s debut in June, also in 2024, the unnamed source informed OtoDriver that the Calya Hybrid will arrive in October (MPV version of the Toyota Agya, Perodua Axia to us) and Avanza Hybrid by September 2025.

Interestingly enough, these plans curiously lack the Toyota Vios Hybrid, a model that we’ve reported back in August 2021. That's probably because the Vios isn't a core model for Toyota in Indonesia's line-up.

Unlike the Innova Hybrid and its Dynamic Force petrol-electric hybrid system, the Vios is said to get Daihatsu’s e:Smart system instead; a series-hybrid system that made its debut on the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid.
