Audi to revise naming convention; even numbers for EV, odd numbers for ICE

Audi will be revising its naming conventions for differentiation between full-electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, reports Automotive News Europe.

First reported by German newspaper Heilbronner Stimme and as cited by Automotive News Europe, Audi's EV models will use even numbers while combustion engine models (including hybrids) will use odd numbers, CEO Markus Duesmann said at the company's annual news conference.

"We are expanding our product portfolio with new electric-drive models and that is why we are restructuring our naming conventions," Duesmann said.

Presently, Audi does not distinguish between EV and ICE models by its naming conventions, from the Audi A1 to A8 sedans or Q1 to Q8 SUVs.

Late last year, Audi renamed the e-tron, which is now called the Q8 e-tron. It sits alongside the e-tron GT and Q4 e-tron as part of the EV line-up.

In Malaysia, PHS Automotive Malaysia (PHSAM), the official distributor of Audi cars in Malaysia, has previewed the Audi e-tron GT with estimated prices from RM 559k to RM 769k for the spicy RS e-tron GT.

Order books for the Audi Q8 e-tron are also open, estimated prices start from RM 369k to RM 476k.
