Bosch: Disruption in supply from Malaysia affecting Nio and Tesla

Our ongoing lockdown is not just affecting the local economy, but also companies located overseas. In this case, the disruption of Bosch’s supplier factory in Muar, Malaysia has affected Nio and Tesla.

This was reported by CarNewsChina, quoting David Xu, the vice president of Bosch China. In a social media post by David, new Covid-19 cases at their supplier's Muar plant has caused sections of the plant to be temporarily closed down by local authorities.

The temporary closure of these sections has affected production lines responsible for Bosch stability control (ESP, Integrated Power Brake, IPB), Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), and Transmission Control Unit (TCU)-related chips.

Furthermore, in David’s posting, the supplier's Muar plant currently employs more than 3,000 staff. Out of which, hundreds have been infected by the virus and 19 staff members have passed away.

But Tesla and Nio aren’t the only two companies affected by this distruption. In China, Bosch also supplies to companies like BMW Brilliance, Changan, and FAW-Volkswagen.

Now, while the exact Nio and Tesla models affected by this is unknown, a leaked document revealed that FAW-Volkswagen has temporarily halted production of the China-only Audi A4L and A6L.
