Bound for Malaysia, we take a closer look at the XPeng G6 BEV 01

At the ongoing 2024 Bangkok Motor Show (BMS), Chinese battery electric vehicle (BEV) company, XPeng made its ASEAN debut with a trio of models. The main highlight though is the XPeng G6 which is planned to be the first model introduced to right-hand drive (RHD) markets.

Yet the units shown at XPeng’s booth are Chinese-spec left-hand drive (LHD) models. XPeng is widely compared with Tesla and the G6 is a close rival of the Tesla Model Y.

Built on XPeng’s SEPA 2.0 platform, the XPeng G6 will be offered in Thailand in 2 variants. Both the Standard and Long Range variants are powered by a rear-mounted 296 PS/440 Nm electric motor with a top speed of 202 km/h.

The difference between the two is the battery size with the Standard juiced by a 66-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) unit and has a claimed range of 580 km (CLTC). The Long Range has a bigger 87.5-kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery with a claimed range of 755 km (CLTC).

XPeng Thailand has opened bookings for the XPeng G6 and while prices have not been announced, it is estimated to range between THB 1.5 million to THB 1.799 million (~RM 195k-234k). For comparison, the Tesla Model Y starts from THB 1.7 million (~RM 221k).

Besides Thailand, XPeng will also be making its way into Malaysia where it will be distributed by Bermaz Auto. No timeline has been announced but expect its arrival to be soon.
