Changan overtakes Geely in April to be best-selling domestic brand in China

April was a good month for Changan Automobile, as the Chongqing-based company has maintained its lead over Geely.

With 106,589 units sold in April alone, Changan outsold Geely by 6,258 units. From January to April, Changan sold 471,227 cars, edging ahead of Geely’s 433,907 units.

The best-selling model for Changan is the Changan Eado Plus. It is a C-segment sedan that gets the choice of two powertrains, including a naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre petrol engine (128 PS and 161 Nm) and a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol (160 PS, 260 Nm).

In April alone, Changan sold 16,183 units of the Eado Plus, marginally less than the Geely Dihao (16,306 units). That said, cumulative sales from January to April, the Eado Plus still edges ahead of the Geely (70,887 units vs 64,550 units).

Closer to this region, the Changan Eado Plus was recently spotted in Thailand. Could that be an early sign that Changan, like fellow Chinese brands MG and Haval, has their sights set on the ASEAN region? Watch this space for more updates.
