Volvo rightfully prides itself on the sustainability efforts incorporated into the vehicles it rolls out. It’s a sense of achievement shared by Federal Auto Cars (FAC) as well, the largest Volvo dealer in the country, and they would like to invite the public to experience their Plastic Sustainable Awareness Weekend.
The Plastic Sustainable Awareness Weekend will be held as follows:
- 16 – 17 July 2022
- All Federal Auto Cars centres
- 10am to 5pm
The carmaker as a whole has taken a huge leap forward in terms of recycling, having announced its ambition that from 2025, at least 25 percent of the plastics used in every new Volvo will be made from recycled material.
Of course, FAC also very much shares these sentiments regarding sustainability and would like to demonstrate to the public how a small step on their end can make a world of difference that eventually culminates in increased recycling and improved sustainability on a larger scale, such as in a new car.
Fully supportive of these endeavours, FAC will be joining hands with Beyond Bins. They are the flagship project by Biji-biji Initiative that works towards sustainability and promoting alternative sources of income to underprivileged communities.
Furthermore, Beyond Bins goes beyond (pun intended) by aiming to support the B40 community via sales of recycled plastic products from their initiative. FAC is naturally fully supportive of efforts to enrich the B40 community and will have their recycled plastic products on display as well as for sale at their showrooms. Therefore, the campaign also serves as a source of income for the community this weekend.
FAC will be conducting interactive and educational experiences for the public regarding tackling plastic waste by means of an interactive showcase on plastic recycling, at their Kuala Lumpur and Glenmarie showrooms specifically.
The aforementioned 2 showrooms will have a demonstration using a small-scale plastic recycling machine and customers are encouraged to bring plastic bottles to be recycled by the machine. Customers that participate in this will receive a small token for participation but bear in mind the tokens are limited to a first-come-first-served basis.
Nonetheless, all showrooms will be conducting a sustainable creative workshop that will teach you how to create your very own garden in a recycled plastic bottle.
Apart from that, all showrooms will also have plastic recycling bins as well for customer to drop off their items. These plastics will then be passed to Beyond Bins for upcycling it down the road.
Bear in mind that the types of plastics accepted are limited to these in the infographic below:
While Volvo has hit great heights in terms of integrating recycled plastics into its vehicles, every single effort begins with a single step, and that is what FAC will be hoping to share with you this coming weekend.
So, bring a few used plastic bottles you would like to have recycled and head on over to any FAC showrooms this weekend to play a part in supporting the B40 community and sustainability effort.
Who knows, your recycled items might just find a way into your next new Volvo too?
