While it is uncertain when Malaysia's car market will start its journey to recovery, new car sales in other countries are recovering fast, especially for Kia. The Korean manufacturer reported that they sold a total of 253,592 units in June 2021 alone, up 20.2 percent from the same month last year.
Spearheading the sales is the Kia Sportage and the Kia Seltos. The Sportage sold 30,906 units while the Seltos moved 24,680 units respectively. The Kia K3, or better known as Cerato to us, followed closely with 24,638 units sold.

A large percentage of the sales are made outside of Korea. The number rose by 35.4 percent compared to last year to 204,312 units. The Kia Rio sub-compact sedan also contributed to the sales number alongside its larger sedan and SUV siblings.
Meanwhile in Korea, Kia recorded sales of 49,280 units, which is a 17.9 percent decrease from June 2020. Sales in their home country are led by the Kia Carnival MPV and the Kia Sorento.

Moving forward, Kia will focus their efforts on pushing new models like the company’s first dedicated electric vehicle (EV), the Kia EV6, as well as the all-new Kia Sportage. The latter is set to launch an all-new fifth-generation later this year.
