No, we did not make a mistake with the title. The 2022 Ora Good Cat, at least according to the stringent Euro NCAP crash test facility, is a safer electric vehicle (EV) than the BMW i4. The Ora Good Cat is sold as the Funky Cat in the Old Continent.
In Euro NCAP’s recent crash test, the Ora Good Cat joins the ranks of its fellow Chinese stablemates, including the Polestar 2, Lynk & Co 01, and Nio ES8 in obtaining a full 5-star rating. The BMW i4 only obtained a 4-star rating.

According to Euro NCAP, “The Funky Cat’s autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well in tests of its reaction to other vehicles, with collisions avoided or mitigated in most test scenarios. A seatbelt reminder system is fitted as standard to the front and rear seats and the car is equipped with a system to detect driver fatigue and distraction. The lane support system gently corrects the vehicle’s path if it is drifting out of lane, and also intervenes in some more critical situations. The speed assistance system detects the local speed limit and the driver can choose to allow the maximum speed of the car to be automatically set by the system.”
The Ora Good Cat made its European debut in the United Kingdom back in March 2022. Prices start from GBP 30,495 (~RM 160k). Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor that does 171 PS and 250 Nm – more powerful than its Thai counterpart. The electric motor is juiced by a 48-kWh battery pack, allowing for a 193-mile range (310 km).
